Position Summary:
The College of Mount Saint Vincent, Physician Assistant Program invites applications at the assistant professor rank for an adjunct
faculty, assistant professor appointment in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. This position provides an exciting opportunity to
contribute to an innovative student-centered Master of Physician Assistant (MPA) program that integrates the biomedical, pharmaceutical,
social administrative and clinical sciences. Curricular content is developed primarily using Team-Based Learning (TBL), in which the faculty
facilitates student learning that promotes self-directed learning, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
Major Duties and
Responsibilities: The curricular design is for the delivery of three Medical Pharmacology courses over the course of the
2nd 3rd and 4th didactic semesters. Each Medical Pharmacology course is 2-credits (30-hours)
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing and delivering curricular content in their area of expertise. The
course outline introduces physician assistant students to the basic principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and their
application to clinical medicine. It will also explore the influence and mechanisms of action of drugs upon the body. Classes of
pharmaceuticals with a focus on mechanisms of drugs, common side effects, drug-drug interactions, and interactions of drugs with disease
states under treatment are discussed. Clinical case studies and problem-solving sessions are introduced. The classes of pharmaceuticals
introduced will parallel the organ system being studied in Clinical Medicine I-III. Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of the disorders
involving the organ system being discussed will be highlighted. Qualified individuals must have an earned doctorate degree and an
understanding of contemporary pharmacotherapeutics.
