The Human Resources unit in the COB Operations department of the College of Business strives for excellence while focusing on exceptional employee service, providing sound guidance, and strategic support for the 5 academic departments, and 7 non-academic departments and centers/institutes.
Position Summary
The HR Generalist in the College of Business (COB) is a member of the Human Resources team in the College of Business. This position is responsible for oversight and guidance for various stages of the employee life cycle, including: recruitment for all types of positions in the College of Business, onboarding, employee development, retention and engagement amongst other HR duties.
The HR Generalist position is responsible for assisting with enrichment of the employee experience from candidate attraction/recruitment through employee separation. This position will oversee many recruitment and hiring efforts in the college and will be relied on to provide expertise and guidance to attract top talent. The HR Generalist will also assist with mentorship program implementation, workforce planning, employee development, communications, culture initiatives, employee relations, compensation, dashboard creation and data analysis, career mobility, and succession planning.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field; or Bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years Human Resources experience.
Experience in recruiting and onboarding in a human resources role.
Experience designing, developing, and/or implementing new programs, processes, or initiatives
Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to approach programs with creativity and innovation and to be adaptable in times of change.
Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of collaboration with all campus constituents and commitment to effectively working with others.
Demonstrated organizational skills, including thorough implementation of complex projects, prioritizing multiple deadlines, and maintaining a high level of quality.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Professional HR Certifications, such as: PHR, SHRM-CP, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or other relevant Human Resources certifications from a reputable organization (such as HRCI or SHRM).
Minimum two years’ experience working with recruitment or hiring in a human resources environment.
Knowledge of recruitment, retention, engagement, development, and onboarding.
Relevant experience working at a higher education institution, especially CSU, and within an HR role.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience or demonstrated ability to create dashboards and analyze and interpret data.
An ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and a comfort talking with people and be able to successfully communicate information to a vast array of audiences. Additionally, they be team-oriented, have a solutions approach to problem solving, be self-motivated, and a desire to enhance employee culture.

Duty/Responsibility
Responsible for strengthening and continually enhancing recruitment, sourcing, and talent acquisition efforts within the College of Business for all employee types (i.e. all faculty, staff, postdoc, hourly, students.).
Responsible for creating recruitment and hiring solutions for smooth and efficient search processes.
Develop relationships with hiring managers and search members, collect information on position needs, provide training, advise and influence minimum and preferred qualifications, advise on recruitment trends, provide interview structure templates for best practices and uniform on campus experiences, create templates and documentation, serve as Equal Opportunity Coordinator or search member on searches, serve as the primary College contact on search related questions, conduct market research, and other recruitment and hiring duties.
Takes a lead role in enhancing recruitment strategies and implementation of action plans to attract top talent and increase diversity of the applicant pools for College of Business employment searches.
Actively build candidate pools by seeking candidates including passive and internal and manage the applicant experience. Explore innovative solutions and creative thinking to solve recruitment challenges and attract top talent. Assess the candidate experience to implement improvements for future recruiting.
Communicate value propositions to candidates, new employees, and search committees as well as the culture and values of the College and University.
Create and maintain hiring dashboard. Analyze data and information on search and recruitment, create goals and metrics to track, generate reports, and take action to make improvements based on findings. Forecast and communicate future recruitment needs.
Serves various roles in the applicant tracking system (Talent Management System – TMS) including posting job openings and completing hiring proposals. Post jobs to external job boards, social media, or other sites. Drafts offer letters. Ensures search documentation is retained according to retention guidelines, maintain committee timelines, and improves processing operations.

Duty/Responsibility
Oversee mentorship program logistics in the College.
Take a lead role in the implementation of the employee mentorship program in the College. Assess interest, research and create documentation for program guidance, market the program, gather information and analyze data to determine successes and improvements needed in the program.
Assist with salary research and analysis for staff and student positions. Help provide guidance on salary ranges based on market data and internal data. Provide history, trend, and forecasting analysis and reports.
Support employee relations functions, particularly as they relate to search and selection related issues and concerns. Address and resolve concerns and conflicts.
Maintain knowledge on hiring, recruitment, and employment policies, procedures, laws, rules, and regulations as well as department and college codes and relevant procedures.
Ensure proper handling and referral of employee relations issues.
Engage in employee advice/guidance, policy/procedure guidance, mediation, conflict resolution, etc.
Identify and implement employee retention, career mobility/pathing, and succession planning initiatives.
Facilitate HR training and develop training materials. Help train on new processes, procedures, policy, and legislative changes.
Assist with employee onboarding program and training/orientation.

Work with marketing/communications team to provide HR internal news updates, intranet communications, and social media presence, as needed.
Participate on the College of Business’ People Committee and contribute to the committee efforts to enhance culture.
Collaborate on generating and implement initiatives involving rewards, recognition, awards, and celebration for our people.
Assist with related events. Identify professional development speakers and trainings for our employee “PEEP Sessions.”
Oversee foreign national immigration status processes for employees. Monitor H-1B applications and assists in the completion of extensions.
Ensure processes meet requirements for the hiring of foreign nationals.
Other HR duties as assigned.
