Graphic Designer

Columbia University’s Office of Communications and Public Affairs is seeking a Graphic Designer. Reporting to the Creative Strategist and working closely with the Director of Creative Services, the Graphic Designer is responsible for graphic design for a wide variety of assignments, which include branding, social media, print and digital communications, presentations, illustration, animation, video, websites, and events. A visual problem solver, the Graphic Designer will take ideas from concept to implementation, having the ability to brainstorm, develop concepts, build mechanicals, and work closely with project clients.
Must have strong typographic, illustration, and animation skills.
Responsibilities:
• Develops fresh design and animation, including, but not limited to, social media, presentations, internal/external communications, collateral, trademarks, motion graphics, and graphic toolkits
• Collaborates with other designers within the office and external vendors, as needed
• Provides support for the art department in the execution of design work
• Follows budgetary limitations and schedules for each project and ensures client satisfaction on both
• Meets with clients to develop communication design and messaging direction for University student recruitment, public awareness, fundraising, and internal audiences
• Manages multiple assignments on tight schedules
• Effectively sells work to clients and communicates design choices underpinning their work
Minimum Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree in design, such as a BFA, or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years of experience
• High proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AfterEffects, Dreamweaver, Acrobat, and Premiere Pro
• Some proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word
• Demonstrate a variety of different design styles, including working with type
• Exceptional design skills across social, digital, print, illustration, animation, motion, and branding
• Excellent creative and communication skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask as needed
• Excellent knowledge of current design, illustration, typography, and animation trends
• Portfolio of work samples required
