Clark County’s Sheriff’s Office is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to fill the role of Communications Manager.
The Communications Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing communication within the Sheriff’s Office. The incumbent will ensure efficient and effective communication between the department and the community, media, and other agencies.
The Communications Manager plays a crucial role in maintaining the department’s positive image and reputation.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is required plus a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar role, preferably law enforcement or government agency.
The Ideal Candidate will have the following:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences. Public speaking experience is preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Proficiency in using communication tools and software, including social media platforms, content management systems, and media monitoring tools.
Resiliency and ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Photo and video production and editing experience preferred.
Experience with project management preferred.
Knowledge of law enforcement operations and terminology preferred.
Flexibility to work outside regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Knowledge of: The principles and practices of public sector organization and program operations; project management, including planning, scheduling, monitoring, and problem solving; methods and procedures of budget development and justification; application and interpretation of County, state and federal laws and regulation relevant to the program area; analysis and evaluation of policies, procedures, public information, and service delivery issues; local and state lawmaking processes; research methods and techniques; trends and practices within the specialized area; and personal computer applications and usage.
Ability to: Effectively plan, direct, and delegate program components; assign, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates; delegate responsibility and authority to carry out policy directives of the governing authority in an effective and timely manner; write clear and concise reports, memoranda, and letters; analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and formulate recommendations; utilize various PC applications at an advanced level; interpret and explain policies, procedures, laws, and regulations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, other governmental jurisdictions, contractors, and other County staff.

Background Investigation – Involves a comprehensive investigation based on information provided by candidates’ personal history statements.
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Utilize Axon’s My 90 community engagement platform, social media, and other proven strategies to assist the Sheriff in communications with the public about the Body Worn Camera program.
Extract and edit non-evidentiary video from body worn cameras, in-car video, and potentially other incident-related video for release to the community during critical incidents.
Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies and plans to effectively rebrand and convey the department’s goals, objectives, and initiatives to the public, media, and other stakeholders.
Assess and analyze the performance and efficacy of the Community Outreach, public information, local media, and recruitment initiatives within the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
Develop and oversee policies, programs, and activities involving community relations, community education, and public information. Promote optimum community participation and input into the program and department activities.
Fiscal management, including development and presentation of program operating budget, ensuring the program is within budget and as cost-effective as possible.
Monitor the condition of the agency’s communication equipment and supplies; coordinate purchasing and service and repair contracts; and provide recommendations.
Coordinate and provide communications training for public safety personnel.
Work in conjunction with the Public Information Officer as a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office in handling media inquiries, press releases, and public statements.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with local media, ensuring accurate and timely dissemination of information.
Manage the department’s social media presence, ensuring consistent messaging and engagement with the community.
Monitor and analyze media coverage and public sentiment related to the Sheriff’s Office, providing regular reports and recommendations to the department’s executive team.
Stay up-to-date with emerging communication trends, technologies, and best practices, and recommend innovative strategies to enhance the department’s communication efforts.
Video shooting and production, including lighting and sound functions.
Creating and editing graphic design.
Perform other duties as assigned.
