OVERVIEW OF CCA

The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is a dynamic institution that is committed to serving its diverse student population through innovations in instruction and student support founded on principles of equity and inclusion. CCA is a public, two-year community college serving Aurora and east metro Denver and has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) by the U.S. Department of Education.

CCA enrolls 11,000 students annually, over 62% of whom are students of color, including nearly 32% Hispanic students. 65% of CCA students receive some type of financial aid, including 52% of whom receive Pell grants, and nearly two-thirds are first-generation college students. In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills. The college centers our Inclusive Excellence work and applies an equity lens to everything we do.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Student Success reports to the SSAO/Dean of Student Success and is responsible for the delivery of retention related programming that increases and improves student success at the Community College of Aurora. As a member of the leadership team of the Division of Student Success, the Director of Student Success will work with other Directors to provide oversight of the efforts related to student conduct and compliance, and case management to meet the persistence and completion goals as set by the Student Success team. The Director of Student Success will have direct oversight over Student Conduct, CCA CARE Team, Student Complaint Process, and various grant-based retention programs, and should have a keen understanding of the guided pathway model, student retention strategies, and experience working with student populations of diverse identities.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Leadership and Supervision

• Assist the SSAO/Dean of Student Success with the development and implementation of effective systems and processes to enable student-centered, equity driven approaches to support and encourage persistence and completion and efforts developed in alignment with the guided pathways model.
• Supervise and guide respective retention focused programs, including: Student Conduct, CARE Team, COSI Back to Work Grant, COSI Community Partnership Program Grant, COSI Finish What You Started Grant
• Create and maintain student policies, procedures, and resources including updating the Student Handbook, Catalog, and other student communications.
• Ensure renewal grants, annual reports and other requirements for maintaining grant-funded activities are met.
• Maintain abreast to current trends in student retention and engagement, and provide professional development opportunities on innovative retention strategies to the Division of Student Success and larger college.
• Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the SSAO/ Dean of Student Success and/or President.

Student Conduct Administration & Compliance

• Coordinate the College’s student conduct process; facilitate educational and restorative conversations with students regarding alleged Student Code of Conduct behavioral violations
• Generate student correspondence and manage campus conduct records in accordance with state/federal laws, State Board policies, Colorado Community College System procedures, and CCA guidelines.
• Partner with:
  1. Division of Student Success in upholding CCA’s Commitment to Academic Integrity, by providing consultation to faculty/instructors, documenting academic integrity referrals, and co-facilitating student conduct meetings with Deans for students who have repeated violations of academic integrity.
  2. Campus Security & Safety to provide prevention education to students related to substance use and abuse.
• Develop and implement professional development opportunities for the campus community related to de-escalation, conflict resolution, and other student behavioral management needs.
• Chair the CARE Team, CCA’s Behavioral Intervention Team, alongside the SSAO/Dean of Student Success, and coordinate training for the Team to remain up to date on threat assessment best practices.
• Manage the Student Complaint process for the college, and primarily serve as the representative in identifying resolutions for students for the Division of Student Success.
• Serve as a Title IX investigator and participate in CCCS trainings regarding Title IX investigative processes; and assist the Title IX Coordinator & Title IX Deputy Coordinators with compliance processes, including record-keeping, investigator training and prevention programming.
• Complete CCA’s Biennial Review and Drug & Alcohol Prevention Report in partnership with Safety & Security.
• Maintain current and accurate information on the college website pertaining to compliance information, including but not limited to: Student Code of Conduct, Student Complaints, Drug Free Schools, Title IX/VAWA, Clery and Right-to-Know.
• Provide student notifications each semester on Student Code of Conduct, CARE Team referral process, Drug Free Schools, Voter’s Registration and VAWA.
• Maintain college membership in the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA).

Collaboration

• Collaborate with Deans, Cabinet and other college leaders in supporting the CCA mission and delivery of all student services.
• Assist SSAO/Dean of Student Success and Director of Student Advocacy Services with student matters and concerns, including crisis intervention, student complaint procedure and student conduct procedures.
• Co-lead the college-wide retention committee with the goal of building collaborative solutions that reduce and remove barriers for student persistence, retention, and completion.
• Serve on campus committees or relevant external groups as assigned or approved by SSAO/Dean of Student Success.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

• Master’s degree in counseling, student development/personnel/affairs, higher education, or related field
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Student Affairs
• Current knowledge and experience applying principles/practices in student conduct and threat assessment
• Familiarity with state and federal regulations pertaining to management of student records and the maintenance of student rights, privacy, and safety (e.g., FERPA, Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX, Campus Safety & Security Act, etc.)
• Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated administrative experience in student retention, and increasing overall student completion
• Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and has had success working in educational settings with diverse populations of students and colleagues.
• Experience supervising professional staff.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Preferred

• Advanced Degree
• 8 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education student affairs
• Experience in crisis and case management;
• High standards of professional integrity and ethics.
• Demonstrated skill in managing difficult situations involving students, parents, staff, faculty, and community members.
• Bilingual preferred

Supplemental information
Salary: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
