ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the HR Manager, Benefits & Compliance, the Benefits & Leave Specialist is a critical member of the organization’s Human Resources Team. The ideal candidate will be detail and solution oriented, and a thoughtful independent worker. They will be able to understand and follow set processes and protocols while making suggested changes to ensure processes are most effective. KEY ASPECTS OF THE ROLE
Community Medical Services (CMS) is seeking a Benefits and Leave Specialist who is responsible for performing all aspects of Leave Management including identifying and managing complex FMLA, ADA, and personal leaves of absence. This HR Specialist will ensure proper follow-up is given, and will act as a liaison between our vendors, management and employees on leave. Additionally, this role will work as an overall benefit and compliance specialist and tasks will range from process orientation, intermediate benefits analysis, reporting, and project coordination.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Communicate effectively to staff and managers associated with the leave process
· Provide guidance and counsel to managers on Absence Management
· Liaison between the vendor and the company regarding the Leave of Absence process and staff on leaves of absence
· Manage the process and active logs regarding leaves of absence and ADA interactive dialog process logs
· Update and provide reports and documents relating to Leaves of Absence, Benefits, and Compliance
· Analyze data to determine areas of improvement or further coaching required
· Expert in Leave of Absence – trains managers, supervisors and employees on FMLA and Leave program, any changes and procedures
· Ensures implementation of benefits elections for new hires and employees with qualifying life event changes; utilizing benefits enrollment software and HRIS database
· Assist employees with questions related to benefits and 401k
· Coordinates with benefits vendors to find solutions and resolve inquiries, as needed
· Facilitate new hire benefits orientations and assist the newly benefit-eligible employees as needed
· Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations related to benefits, 401k and compliance; assists in updating required employer notifications (e.g. Summary Plan
Descriptions)
· Initiates and coordinates preparation of Form 5500s and non-discrimination testing for Health and Welfare plans
· Support employee wellness initiatives
· Review monthly and quarterly benefit program analytics to determine areas of need or issues
· Participate in benefit surveys
· Administer invoicing and billing to benefits and 401k vendors
· Audit employee files to ensure they are in order in advance of any audits
· Participate in audits including but not limited to CARF, OFCCP, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field required
· 4+ years of experience in Human Resources with a focus on Benefits administration and Leave of Absence Coordination; two years of FMLA or ADA experience preferred
· Multi-site and multi-state experience is critical
· Strong Communication skills: Active Listening, Verbal and Written Communications
· Excellent research, analytical, problem solving and project management skills
· Self-started and ability to work independently
· Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a team
· environment
· Knowledge of government regulations, specifically FMLA, ADA and other areas that directly relate to HR
· Working knowledge of HR audits, compliance, document management, employee onboarding, compensation, benefits, and employment law will be helpful for success in role
· Proficient in Microsoft office – specifically in Excel

Community Medical Services began providing treatment in Phoenix, Arizona in 1983. We then expanded our footprint into Montana, North Dakota, and Alaska. In 2018, we acquired two existing opioid treatment programs, allowing us to expand into and serve communities in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Today, CMS operates over 40 clinics across nine states. We are proud to have opened the nation’s first 24-hour Opioid Treatment on Demand (OTOD) center in Phoenix. We have since gone on to expand this model to Columbus, Ohio and West Allis, Wisconsin. At CMS, our focus is on meeting the challenges presented by the growing opioid epidemic in communities where treatment is lacking.
