POSITION SUMMARY:
The Civil Protection Order Liaison acts as the contact between the Court, Franklin County Clerk of Courts and petitioners who wish to file a Civil Protection Order (CPO) or Juvenile Protection Order (JPO). The Liaison works closely with petitioners from the time of initial contact through the final hearing with Judge/Magistrate; assists petitioners with completing paperwork; works with Judge’s/Magistrate’s staff to ensure the ex-parte hearing is completed; ensures final hearing is scheduled and delivers signed protection orders to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Interviews pro se petitioners to determine if the alleged facts of the petitioner’s situation are applicable for filing a domestic CPO or JPO.
2. Provides pro se petitioners seeking a CPO or JPO with the necessary information and documents needed to file for the order and processes the petitioner’s completed documentation.
3. Answers questions and provides information regarding documentation, forms and the CPO and JPO filing process (NOTE: does NOT provide legal advice or assistance).
4. Initiates case number through the Franklin County Clerk of Court’s case management system and prepares case file folder for the Judge/Magistrate to review in court; prepares case file which includes a CPO or JPO for signature by the Judge/Magistrate, an Order to Serve for the Sheriff to effectuate service on the Respondent, and Proof of Service for the Columbus Police Department to make them aware of the Order of Protection.
5. Notarizes petitions, prepares copies and files documents into case management system on behalf of the Franklin County Clerk of Courts.
6. Researches statewide databases for prior court involvement.
7. Reviews approved CPO or JPO with filer by advising them of the guidelines of the protection orders and their responsibilities during the process.
8. Coordinates with court personnel to schedule a court date for the Petitioner and Respondent to appear before the Court.
9. Maintains activity logs and database to track CPO and JPO statistics.
10. Answers phone calls from litigants, the public, attorneys, staff and other agencies with questions about CPO’s and JPO’s, including but not limited to court dates, hearings, status, orders made in the case and procedure.
11. Ensures that returned Notices to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) forms are completed accurately.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED
2-4 years of experience in customer service, clerical work, and data entry
Ability to obtain Notary Public Certification Strong computer skills
Experience in the Court system preferred
