Your Role:
The key functions of the Accountant III include the development and maintenance of accounting systems, general ledger, asset and liability records and other financial transactions, and the reporting of financial and statistical data. The Accountant IV uses professional accounting concepts as a fully qualified, experienced professional with a full understanding of accounting practices and company policies to develop, implement and/or maintain one or a combination of general accounting systems. May function as a team lead and/or coordinate functions of others. Receives assignments in the form of goals or troubleshooting a wide range of issues that will requires imaginative, as well as practical ways to resolve. Interacts with all levels of staff and external constituents to resolve a wide variety of issues.
Your work:
Principal accounting person supporting commercial programs and associated reinsurance agreements, consisting of ceded and assumed agreements of both quota share and fronting arrangements.
Acts as a lead for special projects as needed.
Actively participate in the typical monthly accounting cycle, including recording journal entries, reconciling account balances, performing account analysis, running various reports and interacting with personnel from across the organization as it relates to the specific areas of responsibility.
Preparation and/or review of portions of the Statutory Annual Statements and Audited Financial Statements and supporting footnotes schedules/financial data, including Schedule F and reinsurance footnotes.
Preparing monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
Interact with external and internal auditors during quarter/year end audits
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet critical deadlines.
Good people skills and the ability to interact and work with a diverse group of individuals at various levels throughout the organization.
Essential Functions:
Provides, acquires and exchanges information at all levels of complexity with internal and external contacts. May serve on committees and represent department.
Develops, implements and/or maintains one or a combination of general accounting systems. Applies specialized accounting concepts to perform technical analyses to understand past performance and determine present and future performance and/or resource allocations.
Applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues at the highest levels of complexity, ensuring internal control objectives are met. Prepares proposals for improvements to internal accounting procedures and policies.
Under general supervision, provides analytic support for accounting projects at all levels of complexity. Evaluates, interprets and summarizes and may present reports and records for all levels of leadership. Is a resource to management on complex issues or specialized functions and/or standards.
Determines appropriate solutions to issues from a wide variety of sources. Anticipates issues and escalates to appropriate level of authority.
Provides coaching and assistance to accounting staff.
What would make us excited about you?
Thorough knowledge of GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
Thorough knowledge of financial statement preparation, including consolidations and other advanced topics.
Thorough knowledge of financial analysis techniques.
Strong analytical skills needed to structure and conduct analysis and to evaluate and develop logical solutions to accounting issues.
Understanding of the financial dynamics of a P & C insurer and AAA operations and their application to CSAA’s accounting environment.
Required Education, Work Experience, Licenses & Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on Business Administration, Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience.
5-7 years previous relevant work experience.
Insurance Industry experience
Reinsurance experience
Preferred:
Big 4 or large regional firm experience.
Corporate accounting experience in a SOX environment.
Oracle Cloud or other large ERP experience.
CPA preferred.

The national average salary range for this position is $78,480-$87,200. However, we have a location-based compensation structure. Our salary ranges vary and are calculated based on county of residence. The full salary range for this position across all the states we hire in is $70,650-$104,700. This role also includes an opportunity for a company-wide annual discretionary bonus, through our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP), of up to 8% of eligible pay.
