Configuration Manager

We’ve successfully delivered DevSecOps at scale, pioneered the use of automation and CI/CD, and are actively migrating a portfolio of more than 80 applications to more available and accessible cloud environments.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Configuration Manager, you will be responsible for managing the lifecycle and configuration of software packages offered by the U.S. Forest Service Chief Information Office (CIO) Hosting Services Team. You will be responsible to collecting information on software in use, end of life software support dates, and future use patterns. You will combine this information and work with the respective service owners to create and maintain a software lifecycle roadmap and Service Catalog that represents the offerings of the Hosting Services Team.
Day to day, sample responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:
· Create and maintain configuration management plans
· Document a software configuration management (CM) concept that spans the complete lifecycle cycle, references industry best practices, and supports the use of agile development
· Identify CM requirements that cover the system, hardware, software, and data/info requirements
· Document and measure processes related to configuration management activities
· Document the software currently available for use within the CIO Hosting Services across three areas: being retired, current standard, and future standard
· Publish the Software Roadmap for the Hosting Service Team based on the above criteria
· Provide input for the CIO Service Catalog for the Hosting Services Team
· Work with the Software Asset Management Team to understand and track the software that is currently licensed and available for use by the Hosting Services Team
· Gather input from the application teams regarding what components they need for future application development efforts
· Define, implement, and monitor version control best practices and processes for infrastructure configurations
· Communicate and control release plans for hosting environments
· Ensure all releases and build processes are accurately documented and are reported through the approved toolset
· Conduct configuration reviews or audits that include but are not limited to requirements, problem reports, defects, and bug reports
· Provide guidance to engineers on the configuration management processes
· Attend weekly team meetings to discuss ongoing issues and provide status on assigned items
Prerequisites
The ideal candidate for the Configuration Manager position will possess the following:
· 8+ years of configuration management experience
· 3+ years of experience working with teams that support infrastructure software configurations
· Preferred – CMPIC or similar certification
· Preferred – infrastructure engineering experience
· Preferred – agile software development experience
· Experience with Technology Business Management (TBM) is helpful, but not required
· Experienced configuration management practitioner in all hardware and software CM related disciplines, including Configuration Control, Configuration Status Accounting, CM Audits, Baseline Management, and Software Configuration Management
· Ability to perform within a multi-functional program team comprising both company staff and the customer.
· Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multi-functional teams and businesses dealing with software and hardware products
· Demonstrated understanding of technical issues pertaining to enterprise scalability, economies of scale, and their impacts on total costs of ownership (TCO) in very large deployments.
· Preferred – HUBZone residency (certified at https://maps.certify.sba.gov/)
· Required – US Citizen or “green card” holder
