DES is seeking a Human Resources and Payroll Coordinator to support a private nationally recognized college located in Dallas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Initiates background and reference checks and drug screening
· Responsible for onboarding and educating newly hired employees on HR policies, internal procedures, and regulations
· Serves as a benefits administrator for open enrollment and monthly reconciliations
· Reviews prepares, and processes monthly, semi-monthly and student payrolls utilizing HRIS to produce accurate and timely payroll
· Enters manual checks in Quickbooks or bill.com for missed or incorrect paychecks
· In collaboration with Work Program Office, identify a primary supervisor for student workers, update in PAYCOR as necessary
· Work with HR Manager to assign supervisors to students, so they can view their student worker time cards in PERFORM Time
· In collaboration with Financial Aid, determine financial coding of students (Institutional Funds vs. Federal Work Study Funds) and ensure that the correct coding is listed in PERFORM Payroll each semester.
· Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws
· Verifies hours worked, paid time off, deductions, and pay adjustments
· Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the HRIS
· Provides information to employees and managers on payroll matters and tax issues
· Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports
· Processes wage garnishments, backup withholding, TWC claims
· Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors
· Ensures all taxes are reconciled, processed, and paid in a timely manner
· Conducts all Quarterly and Year-End payroll tasks including issuing W2, 1099-NEC
· Serves as payroll expert and provides guidance with complex payroll tasks
· Stays informed about changes in tax & deduction laws that apply to payroll
· Performs all other duties assigned
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or related field
· 2 years of payroll experience including preparation
· Computer literacy to include MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Payroll HRIS Software, Quickbooks, bill.com
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
· Exceptional communication (verbal and written), problem-solving skills
· Excellent customer service skills
· Very good interpersonal and teamwork skills
· Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and can work in a fast-paced environment.
· Self-confidence and strong work ethic
· Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills Preferred
Desired Qualifications
· Experience using Paycor payroll system
· 1 – 2 years of benefits administration experience
· Human Resources lifecycle, ie. Onboarding, performance planning, separations
· Advanced software skills in MS Office Excel
· Certified Payroll Professional (CPP Certification)
· Bilingual (English/Spanish)
