Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Hiring for Research Fellow Job at Boston, MA Full Time

A full-time post-doctoral fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Coleman Lindsley (https://lindsleylab.dana-farber.org/) at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Harvard Medical School. We use interdisciplinary approaches at the interface of genomics and molecular biology to understand the mechanisms of human disease, with the aim of translating these insights into novel therapies for patients with cancer. The ideal candidate is collegial, creative, and highly motivated, with a strong record of productivity during graduate training. The position will involve the study of hematologic malignancies, and projects will integrate analysis of primary human samples and engineered mouse models. Technical skills involving tissue culture, flow cytometry, and standard molecular and cell biology techniques are highly desirable. Prior experience with small animal models would be an advantage but is not required. An MD, PhD, or MD/PhD is required.

Projects will be tailored to a candidate’s experience, interests, and goals, within the following areas of laboratory focus:

• Germline leukemia predisposition syndromes (pathogenesis, transformation, novel surveillance and therapeutic strategies). Anticipated projects will focus on Shwachman-Diamond syndrome and telomere biology disorders.
• Bone marrow transplantation (understanding donor/disease/recipient factors that drive relapse and toxicity). Anticipated projects will focus on how clonal hematopoiesis in donors impacts recipient outcomes, and how recipient genetic characteristics influence graft-versus-host disease severity.
• Genetic pathways of disease progression (gene-gene interactions, epigenetics, novel therapeutic vulnerabilities). Anticipated projects will focus on Polycomb-repressive complex 1.1 and RNA splicing.

The laboratory is situated in the Division of Hematologic Neoplasia at DFCI, within a vibrant community of translational and basic research that includes Harvard Medical School, the Broad Institute of MIT, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Boston Children’s Hospital. The responsibilities of this full-time position will also include some general lab duties as outlined below.

• Design and perform experiments both individually and collaboratively
• Prioritize research plan
• Provide advice and training for junior members of the lab
• Work on problems of diverse scope
• Develop, modify, and improve standard lab operating procedures
• Select methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
• Analyze and present data both informally and formally
• Write career development grants
• Prepare manuscripts

Supervisory responsibilities

None; however, the post-doc is expected to provide guidance and training to lab technicians/technical research assistants and other junior lab members on established processes and procedures.

This position does not involve contact or interaction with hospital patients.
