Position Purpose
Under minimal supervision, the Pool Operations Assistant Manager’s duty is to assign staff and assist with oversight of the pool and park area for the overall protection and the safety of guests both in and around the water.
Functional Responsibility
- Supervises the day-to-day operations and assigned staff in accordance with management’s direction
- Leads in a constructive manner by example; demonstrates and encourages a strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
- Guides team in the proper use of assets and resources to avoid waste and ensure cost-effective operations
- Monitors performance and regularly communicates with team to achieve mutual understanding, maintain level of productivity, and deliver desired results
- Partners with immediate manager to determine staffing needs
- Ensures employees have a safe, healthy, and rewarding work environment, provides applicable safety training and resolves/reports safety issues to management
- Supports change initiatives and company decisions in an effective manner
- Immediately informs management and addresses employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
- Ensures employees are trained on the policies, processes, and procedures related to functional area; maintains company and regulatory compliance during day-day-operations
- Adheres to departmental GPS (Performance Management) guidelines and ensures proper GPS documentation; trains employees to do the job; identifies and makes suggestions for training needs and development opportunities
Essential Duties
- Oversees daily operation of the lifeguard team
- Reviews daily logs and completes monthly reports, as required by the Health Department and the Company
- Properly trains and supervises lifeguards in maintaining proper pool chemistry, temperature, Health Department regulations, Certified Pool Operator standards and general pool environment
- Performs the tasks of the Lifeguard Instructor for existing Lifeguard staff
- Ensures and maintains safety, order, and cleanliness in and around pool area and of all persons in and around pool area
- Monitors and maintains pool maintenance as needed
- Enforces pool rules and facility regulations
- Creates an incident investigation report if any accident or rescues occur and works with Safety representatives in completing all follow-up actions
- Manages the pool area for opening and closing
- Works with the Guest Services Manager to ensure that safe occupancy levels are always maintained in the pool
- Conducts in-service training sessions as well as any others deemed necessary by the company
- Ensures lifeguards are maintaining a high level of customer service and monitoring all safety protocols
- Communicates and makes team aware of guests who are at risk: weak swimmers, breaking rules or overly intoxicated
- Fields customer inquiries and provides customer service and support for all areas of the property
- Monitors inventory of first aid supplies for the Hospitality operation and orders as needed
- Monitors inventory of pool chemicals and supplies and orders as needed
- Works with the Maintenance Department and vendors to maintain the equipment and systems for the pool
- Partners with the Safety Department on applicable safety training and incident investigations
- Responds to guest inquiries and concerns promptly and with courtesy

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
- Associates degree or equivalent experience
- 3+ years lifeguard experience
- 2+ years supervisory experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Certificates and Licenses
- Lifeguarding – American Red Cross
- Lifeguard Instructor – American Red Cross
- CPR – American Red Cross
- First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) employee – may obtain this within six months of employment
- TIPS Certification or Certified within 90 days of employment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must possess good oral communication skills
- Must be able to read and interpret printed material and illustrations
- Must be able to remain calm and rational in emergencies
- Ability to communicate effectively with public, guests and staff members, including projecting voice across large distances
- Warm, personable demeanor, flexible and a team player
- Self-motivated and professional with the ability to multi-task
- Highly organized, accurate and detail oriented
- Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating effectively with clients, management, peers, and subordinates
- Ability to tread water without using hands or arms for a period of two-minutes
- Ability to work in team environment as a team member and as team leader
Working Conditions
- General pool environment with no travel
- Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
- Exposure to weather-related temperature & humidity extreme
- Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment
- Weekends, Holiday, and some evenings required
- Approved uniform required and any necessary job-related safety equipment during assigned shift or anytime while on duty
