Dollar Tree Hiring for Director, Software Engineering – IT at Chesapeake, VA Full Time

General Summary

The Director Software Engineering is responsible for managing and directing software development efforts ranging from solution architecture, design, development, testing and implementation. This leader will help define the Application Development Roadmap and Reference Architecture(s).

This role will have direct management responsibility for multiple application development teams, third-party contractors and/or offshore resources.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direction for Application Architecture, Design, Development, Unit / Integration Testing, Implementation and turnover documentation for assigned business domains
• Responsible for driving adherence to sprint and/or project milestones
• Collaborate broadly on the definition of key application performance indicators and SLA’s, measure and communicate across the IT organization
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and business partners to ensure you are delivering on the promises we make as an IT organization
• Evaluate team members performance, provide candid feedback and coaching than enables and motivates them to achieve objectives
• Partner with ITIL Process Owners for Incident, Problem, Change and Configuration Management to ensure the correct application development processes are in place with the goal of continually improving operational excellence
• Ensure departmental procedures, practices and standards are managed and enforced
• Assist with preparation and management of capital and expense budgets
• Perform project and non-project related tasks and activities to support the department’s goals and objectives

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems, master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years senior IT leadership experience and understanding of all aspects of a large-scale application delivery function
• Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of employees and management
• Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and meet aggressive deadlines
• Experience leading others in Lean and/or Agile methodologies; experience working in a product-centric organization is a plus
• Experience in J2EE, .Net, SQL, Oracle, DB2, iSeries/RPG, digital/ecommerce technologies
• Experience in migrating from monolithic development methods to microservices / container-based methods preferred
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Action oriented, able to manage multiple priorities and meet timelines and deadlines
• Strong track record of delivering initiatives on time and on budget
• Has a bias to action and innovation, is curious, and is constantly learning

Desired Qualifications

• Experience moving development organization from traditional waterfall methodology to Agile methodologies
• Experience deploying software and services in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Proven experience defining, building and maturing API layers into legacy environments
• Familiarity with IT and IT service management concepts (ITIL)
• Critical incident management and response experience
• Experience creating, maintaining and optimizing Standard Operating Procedures
