About the Team
The People Strategy & Operations team is the “central nervous system” for DoorDash’s People team. The team oversees:
- Driving strategy, planning, and execution across the People team
- Providing essential central services (e.g., analytics, technology, operations)
- Developing programs to increase talent density throughout the employee lifecycle (e.g., onboarding, performance management, talent planning)
- Leading special projects (e.g., internationalization, M&A, future of work)
About the Role
We are hiring a Director of Special Projects who will lead cross-functional strategic projects. You will initially be responsible for leading our post-COVID workforce strategy and planning efforts, in collaboration with executives and stakeholders across departments such as People, Legal, Workplace Services, IT, and Finance. Following this initial initiative, the role will take on new initiatives to support our rapidly growing People team.
This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of how and where we work at DoorDash, and it requires a combination of holistic strategic thinking, influence, change management, and rapid execution. The cross-functional team you lead will be responsible for everything from creating policy to planning for office space (especially given our rapid growth over the past year), to defining success metrics. This role offers a tremendous opportunity for innovation and thought leadership – we are in new territory – and the outcomes will impact employee engagement and retention.
The role reports to our Chief People Officer.

- 10+ years of professional experience HR strategy and operations experience in high-growth environments in progressively more challenging roles
- At least 3 years leading cross-functional teams or projects, with experience building, aligning, and helping teams produce outstanding outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to achieve goals through effective people strategy and execution
- Exceptional project management capabilities – enjoys leading complex, dependency-heavy workstreams
- Proven ability to engage with senior leaders as well as functional experts to influence their thinking
- A problem-solver, data-driven approach to measuring the progress and success of initiatives
- Proven track record of adapting and excelling in ambiguous and rapidly evolving situations. Ability to seamlessly flex between strategic, operational, and tactical levels

Pursuant to the Colorado Fair Pay Act, the base salary range in Colorado for this position is $161,000 – $241,000, plus opportunities for equity and commission. Compensation in other geographies may vary.
