Duke University Hiring for Manager, Electrical Systems High Voltage at Durham, NC Full Time

Duke Utility & Engineering Services (DUES) includes the following operating units that provide the full range of utility &
engineering services to the Duke Campus and Medical Center: Chilled Water, Steam, Electrical HV Systems, Water (including water, sewer, and
storm water), Energy Management and Engineering. The Electrical HV Systems organization is responsible for installation, maintenance, and
operation of the High voltage distribution system, central generation plants, and the campus site lighting. DUES is within the Facilities
Management Department (FMD), reporting to the Vice President for Facilities Management. This position reports to the Executive Director of
Utility & Engineering Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Electrical HV System Manager leads a team of
HV technicians, engineers, control technicians and planners. They provide general and technical management in order to deliver safe,
reliable, and efficient delivery of microgrid operations and electrical utility services to Duke University. This includes design,
procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical high voltage distribution systems, central backup power generating
systems, and site lighting.

Typical Duties

• Coordinate the design, procurement, and construction of new
  high voltage distribution systems to meet the needs of new or renovated facilities.
• Review HV electrical plans, specifications and
  equipment for new installations and renovations; inspect projects during and following installation and advise as to compliance with
  specifications prior to University acceptance.
• Assist in the development and updates of the University standards and guidelines for
  future project planning, design, construction and maintenance activities to insure best practices are employed.
• Oversee operation
  and maintenance of University electrical and high voltage distribution systems to ensure that they meet the reliability needs of the
  University.
• Develop and monitor preventative maintenance plans for electrical HV distribution system.
• Advise and assist
  with problems involving electrical engineering and general system maintenance.
• Plan, prepare, and maintain electrical safety
  programs; carry out regular safety instruction sessions and insure that all facilities and HV service equipment conform to all applicable
  Federal, State, and local safety regulations.
• Manage development, deployment, maintenance and operation of power distribution
  automation and SCADA systems.
• Monitor, examine and verify expenditure of funds to establish and track project budgets.
• Determine annual expense budget requirements of the electrical HV distribution system and site lighting.
• Prepare reports,
  analyses, and presentations as needed.
• Develop HV team members by providing training and feedback on performance. Recommend various
  personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, firing, merit recommendations, and promotions.
• Maintain good relationships
  with consulting engineers, equipment vendors, contractors, and supplemental labor providers.
• Perform other related duties
  incidental to the work described herein.
