Denton, TX (est. pop. 148,000) is seeking an experienced, visionary Economic Development Director to manage and direct its Economic Development Department.
Denton is a unique community with a historic past and a dynamic, high growth environment. For the 2020-21 fiscal year, the city saw 24 new commercial development permits, including multi-family, with a combined total value of more than $218 million. Industrial projects, estimated to surpass 2 million square feet, are currently underway in the Westpark Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ), the largest industrially zoned area within the city.
The Economic Development Director collaborates with a broad range of internal and external officials from organizations, business leaders, development professionals and the public to achieve the city’s goals and objectives. With a budget of $4,226,275, the Director oversees the activities of a staff of 3.75 direct reports.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Community Planning, Public Administration or a closely related field, and a minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience business development, economic development, community planning, or similar. A master’s degree and seven (7) years of closely related professional experience desired but not required. The ideal candidate must have a proven track record in senior level supervisory and economic development leadership roles with a focus on driving innovation, crafting strategic plans, successful management of financial operations, and setting realistic goals and timelines. CEcD certification is desired, but not a requirement.
