One position will serve as the Employment Readiness Specialist/Occupational Education and Training Coordinator (OETC) at King County YouthSource at 645 Andover Park W, Tukwila, WA 98188. One position will serve at our Center for Education and Career Opportunities (CECO) at 16101 Greenwood Ave N, Shoreline, WA 98133. The Employment Readiness Specialist positions provide job readiness training to youth and young adults enrolled in King County’s education and employment programs for youth/young adults ages 16-24 years. The Employment Readiness Specialists work with participants and plan, develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate trainings and participant preparation for employment, both subsidized and unsubsidized. Work includes assisting youth and young adults to identify career interests, develop resumes and cover letters, understand how to complete applications, interviewing skills and techniques and more. These are highly skilled instructional positions, which work as part of the teams at each site.

WORK SCHEDULE/CONDITIONS: These positions are scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. They meet the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and are overtime eligible with supervisory pre-approval. These positions are not represented by a union.
Teleworking Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of teleworking complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.

• Design and develop job readiness coursework and curricula: perform course analysis, write
learning objectives; develop instruction and testing materials and visual aids.
• Conduct courses and provide workshops to participants in job readiness, which includes but is not limited to career exploration, resume creation, cover letter development, job search training, job applications, interviewing techniques, communication, and other job relevant soft skills.
• Evaluate and track student progress. Provide constructive feedback and supplemental individualized training, where needed.
• Maintain and update a library of training and reference materials and additional employment workshops and resources.
• Work with the case management team at each site and partners to develop and execute employment events for participants.
• Lead job development efforts for internship placements and manage relationships with external businesses.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Bachelors’ degree in education, business, social work, or related field and/or equivalent related work experience.
• At least two years of recent experience working with youth or young adults in an employment or education environment. Education may be substituted with an appropriate level of experience/demonstrated ability to complete the job duties.
• Demonstrated skill in working and building rapport with youth and young adults from diverse
cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic populations.
• Demonstrated teaching ability.
• Demonstrated employment industry knowledge, including but not limited to job search
techniques, resume writing and interview skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of training and assessment methods, and knowledge of teaching methods and presentation techniques.
• Knowledge of equity and social justice principles and practices, and understanding of the effects of place, race, and policy and system-based inequities on marginalized communities.
• Ability to effectively manage time to work on multiple tasks in high pressure/short deadline environment, and to adapt to changes in workload demand and priorities.
• Strong interpersonal and human relations skills, including conflict resolution techniques.
• Ability to work in stressful situations involving youth with barriers to success in education and employment.
• Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both
independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with youth and employees from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Proficiency MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Teams and the Internet.
• Ability to pass a Washington State Patrol Background check on a post offer/pre hire basis.
