Currently we have an opening for a Construction Safety and Health Specialist (CSHS) with a federal agency in Emmitsburg, MD. Candidates should have 5 years’ experience (or 3 years with CSP), a passion for safety, experience that includes indoor construction safety, asbestos control, and general industrial hygiene.

Candidates will be part of an established team of professionals with central initiatives and independent projects. This is an “owner’s representative” type position. You will oversee projects and make suggestions on correcting identified findings. Thus, long-term relationship building is critical. Candidate should be comfortable to walk jobsites independently, identify safety issues and recommend asbestos remediation best practices. Must be willing to assist, as needed, which could include tasks such as indoor air quality surveys and water sampling.

Workplace facility is not accessible by Metro, so a personal vehicle will be needed. Position is salaried, full-time and with good benefits. Job Description

• Provide oversight to multiple light to heavy construction projects simultaneously and work independently without constant supervision, yet still use good judgement and concise communication (verbal and written) to ensure that the Manager and Customer Representatives understand what is happening at each jobsite.
• Support industrial hygiene activities (sampling, asbestos, hearing, ergonomics, etc.…)
• Assure compliance with OSHA and Army Corps of Engineers (EM385-1-1) regulations.
• Attend weekly project meetings and address safety issues with staff.
• Advise contractor supervisor of non-compliance, stop work in imminent danger situations and report actions to supervisor
• Deliver clear, concise verbal and written communication about an issue, including recommendations based on findings from daily walk-throughs, and weekly project reports with deficiencies and recommended corrective actions noted.
• Initiate follow-up on issues to ensure compliance.
• Recommend programs, policies and processes to manage construction-renovation safety at multiple facilities.
• Teach safety-related classes.
• Perform accident investigations and investigate near-misses.
• Share thoughts and opinions with other construction safety professionals on team.

Specific Requirements

• Clean credit and no criminal history.
• Having a federal CAC in recent past is preferred.
• U.S. Citizenship
• Completion of OSHA 500 or ability to complete in 6 months.
• Completion of Asbestos and Lead Supervisor or ability to complete within 6 months.
• Able to crawl, climb over obstacles, walk on uneven surfaces such as ramps, rooftops and able to climb ladders without assistance.
• Able to enter confined space or work on high-elevation task locations.
• Three to ten years’ construction safety experience including interior construction/renovation
• Five (5) years directly related industry safety experience, or three (3) years with a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
• High School Graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
• Completed college degree in Occupational Safety preferred, but not required.
• Able to achieve Secret clearance. Employer will sponsor.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $80,000.00 – $84,000.00 per year
