Who You Are

You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related environmental or ecological field and are a mid-to senior-level Biologist with a 8 to 15+ years of professional experience. This includes project management, proposal development, biological resource surveys and report compilation. Experience leading wetland delineations, coastal natural resource surveys, wildlife surveys, and permitting within Florida is also required.

You have served as the primary author on a variety of environmental documents such as biological assessments, evaluations, and reports, and sections of NEPA documents. You are known for preparing documents that are clear, concise, well-written and supported and for your ability to present information understandably and speak persuasively about complex topics to clients, agency staff, teaming partners, other project stakeholders and the general public.

You are an effective team member and communicator who contributes constructively and cooperatively to solve project or team issues.

You work collaboratively with clients and interdisciplinary teams to deliver your projects on time and within budget and have developed and tracked scope, schedules, and budgets.

You enjoy field work and are able to walk long distances carrying a backpack, safely operate, load and transport equipment and gear, and cross fences, creeks and other obstacles.

What You Will Do for ESA

Using sound judgment and critical thinking, you will apply and adapt standard techniques, methods and procedures for a wide range of complex biological studies. You will serve as a technical specialist, peer review the work of others and provide supervision to more junior team members. Detailed responsibilities may include:

• Performing and sometimes leading biological field studies such as native flora and fauna surveys including rare plant surveys, protected species surveys and relocations, vegetation classification and habitat mapping, seagrass and coral surveys, and wetland delineations.
• Designing larger mitigation and habitat restoration sites, including final construction plans, specifications, and monitoring plans.
• Serving as a primary author of environmental documents potentially including technical memoranda, biological assessments/evaluations, scientific discipline reports, sections of NEPA documents, and resource-related permit applications.
• Serving as Deputy Project Manager or Project Manager. Overseeing the completion of specific project tasks including coordinating the project delivery schedule, handling project logistics, disseminating and maintaining project related information, serving as the point person for team member or client questions and delivering project assignments on time and within budget.
• Developing proposals including writing, fee estimation, and presentations to the client.
• Participating in technical presentations to clients and team members, or at conferences.
