The Water Quality & Operations Division of the Tucson Water Department is seeking a highly qualified, dedicated, innovative and team-oriented business professional for the position of Environmental Scientist to effectively participate as a team member to and manage the environmental compliance programs for the utility. This position is an independent position that will assist in identifying, investigating, and resolving compliance related issues, implementing programs for the utility with regards to environmental and regulatory programs, coordinating and monitoring the effectiveness of these programs.
Currently, this could potentially be a hybrid/telecommuting position where approximately 50% of the work is completed in the office or field and 50% of the work is completed remotely. This model may change based on future business needs.
Upon successful completion of the mandatory one-year probation period, selected candidates may enjoy the opportunity to work from home while abiding by the terms and guidelines set forth in the City of Tucson’s Telecommuting Administrative Directive 2.01-19 to include:
• Must have a minimum of 50 Mbps to connect to the internet
• Shall designate and maintain a dedicated workspace that is quiet, clean, and safe, with adequate lighting and ventilation
General Description
Provides environmental compliance support in achieving, maintaining, and monitoring water, soil, and air compliance with federal and state regulations that protect the environment.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of experience in environmental regulatory compliance and remediation or directly related experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the ability to successfully perform the essential functions may be considered.

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on an Eligibility List. An applicant’s ranking on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

This recruitment will establish a civil service list that may be utilized to fill Tucson Water vacancies occurring within the next 6 months.
