The Public Works Agency
The Public Works Agency provides essential construction, integrated waste and recycling collection, fleet and facility maintenance and repair services to the citizens and businesses of Ontario through the Parks and Maintenance, Municipal Services, and Integrated Waste Departments. The Agency strives to meet the daily challenges of maintaining exceptional levels of service to our residents and community, providing stellar customer service, and maximizing all resources to develop and maintain value for the City. The Agency has 232 full time employees and an annual budget of over $105 million.

The essential functions typically performed by the Equipment Mechanic include the following:
Education
High School diploma or recognized equivalent.
Experience
One year in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance involving automobiles and light duty vehicles and equipment. Completion of vocational training programs in automotive or equipment maintenance and repair may substitute for experience.
Licenses
Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license and an acceptable driving record at time of appointment. Ability to obtain a valid California Commercial Class A driver’s license within six months of appointment.
Certifications
Possession of or ability to obtain an Air Conditioning Freon Recycling Certificate within six months of appointment.
Special Requirements
The current hours for this position are 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 1:30 PM – 10:00 PM Friday. Equipment Mechanics may be required to work flexible shifts and hours. The Department reserves the right to change the schedule as necessary to meet the City’s business needs.
Desirable
Previous experience with the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of automobiles and light duty vehicles and equipment. Possession of one or more Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automobile Technician certifications. Possession of a Smog Technician License.
