Bargaining Unit: DSA – Deputy Sheriff’s Non-Sworn Rank & File Unit
License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license. Out of State valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.
Education: Possession of a High School Diploma, GED Equivalency or a High School Proficiency Certificate and completion of 15 semester units, or 20 quarter units, from an accredited college or university which must include: a course in chemistry or biology (with laboratory section); and one course in Fingerprints or Evidence collection.
Substitution of Education: One (1) year of full-time, or its equivalent, of experience in a law enforcement agency in an assignment involving evidence handling or fingerprint comparisons will substitute for the Fingerprint or Evidence Collection course.
Sensory Requirement: Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities and differences between shade, degree or value of colors, shapes, sounds, forms, textures, or physical appearance associated with job-related objects, materials, tasks, or people.
A thorough background investigation will be conducted by the Office of the Sheriff. The applicant shall not have been convicted of a felony in this state, or in any other state, or federal jurisdiction. Any offense in any other state, or in any other federal jurisdiction, which would have been a felony if committed in this state will also result in automatic disqualification.
Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
Fingerprint Technician Core Multiple Choice Assessment: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an online multiple choice assessment. The assessment will measure candidates’ competencies as they relate to the Fingerprint Technician I classification. These may include, but are not limited to: Analyzing and Interpreting Data, Using Technology, Attention to Detail, Handling Stress, Professional Integrity and Ethics, Legal and Regulatory Navigation, and Self-Management (weighted 100%)
The Fingerprint Technician Core Multiple Choice Assessment will take place via computer (remotely) the week of December 6, 2021.
The assessment will be administered remotely using a computer. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment. It is not recommended to take the assessment using a cell phone.
The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
