Full Job Description
Position Summary:
The Authorization Specialist is primarily responsible for all renewal authorizations. They will also be available to assist in intake when needed.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain authorization renewals for active patients
- Prioritize authorization renewals according to next appointment date
- Obtain all necessary documentation required for authorization renewal prior to submission
- Follow up with providers offices for requested clinicals/documents regularly
- Follow up with payer on pending cases regularly
- Appeal insurance companies after prior authorization refusals
- Provide updates to patient and provider when authorizations deny or need more information, as well as any delays that might occur.
- Assists clients and staff with referral questions when needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Competency
- Knowledge of authorization procedure and its impact on the revenue cycle
- Understanding of payer’s medical policies and utilization of this knowledge to manage authorizations effectively
- Proficient use of CPT and ICD-10 codes
- Excellent computer skills including Excel and internet use
- Detail oriented with above average organizational skills
- Plans and prioritizes to meet deadlines
- Excellent customer service skills; communicates clearly and effectively
- Ability to multi-task and remain focused while managing a high-volume, time-sensitive workload
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in infusion therapy or related healthcare services.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience of prior authorization experience
Education:
- High School diploma or Equivalent.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 – $24.00 per hour
