This full-time contract Electronic Engineer position will work in our client’s Project Engineering Telecom (TENP) organization. Project Engineering Telecom’s electronic engineering function provides scoping, engineering, design, and field support for telecommunication facilities and associated equipment. This includes fiber optics, analog/mobile radio, digital radio, power line carrier, operational telephone, microwave towers and antennas, emergency AC/DC power and UPS systems, communications buildings, multiplex equipment, and monitoring systems including alarm system, Fault Locating Acquisition Reporter (FLAR), microwave monitor, wide area networks used for operational data and network management. This position provides professional engineering expertise in assisting the project manager and other engineering personnel in implementing projects; supporting field maintenance crews and operations; and, other related engineering activities.

Position Responsibilities [What You’ll Do]

• Perform required scoping and design work for capital projects, based on analysis of engineering and design requirements, project parameters, and technical information from multiple sources.
• Perform simulation studies with assistance from TENP Subject Matter Expert(s), and document findings in formal reports.
• Participate on teams to research and test telecommunication and related equipment.
• Assist in development of requirements for technical specifications for procurement and construction of telecommunications systems and equipment. Provide technical support in the administration of material contracts and project management of turnkey system contracts.
• With oversight and approval from staff, prepare detailed scoping, design, material, or procurement specifications for equipment, verifying that technical tradeoffs have been considered and that decisions conform to existing policies and standards and are within budgetary constraints.
• Apply standard telecommunications guides and design templates to scope and design assigned projects.
• Prepare comprehensive final scoping and design packages for assigned projects, including final detailed design drawings, draft statements of work (contract design, construction, and contract), and all other documents for the telecommunication equipment installation, layout, wiring and testing for review and approval by the manager.
• Prepare equipment settings sheets and all other documentation required to complete the design packages associated with assigned projects.

Position Requirements [Who You Are]

Education & Corresponding Experience:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in Electronic or Telecommunications Engineering, is required.
• 5 + years of experience in Telecommunications Engineering or closely-related field is required.
• Must have knowledge of engineering concepts, principles and practices applicable to components and facilities found on a regional transmission system

Required Technical Skills & Experience:

• Experience with telecommunications or network engineering in a utility environment.
• Experience with phone systems, including Avaya and/or Cisco.
• Experience with transport core and edge products and management tools, Cisco routers and switches, and microwave radio equipment.
• Knowledge of engineering standards, serial and interoffice circuits, and network equipment.
• Knowledge of backbone infrastructure connectivity including microwave radio and fiber optic telecommunications systems is preferred.
• Experience with telecommunication construction projects.
