Summary
The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for assisting the pathologists with efficiently producing high-quality diagnostic reports and ensuring accurate information throughout the process.
Responsibilities:
1. Transcribe both shorthand and dictated pathology results
2. Assist with electronic report delivery; upload reports to EMA; push EMA orders
3. Maintain a basic understanding of dermatopathology to detect potential errors
4. Adherence to compliance and completion of compliance training
5. Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education
1. Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred
2. Medical Transcription Diploma preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Strong organization skills with high level of attention to detail
2. Ability to type a minimum of 50 wpm with minimal errors is required
3. Knowledge of general medical terminology and basic human anatomy is helpful but not required
4. Must be flexible with hours to meet work flow demands
5. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Must be able to learn new software quickly.
6. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
7. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff/ peers, physicians, and leadership.
8. Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
9. Ability to use time productively and contribute to high levels of company operational efficiency and effectiveness.
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
Physical Demands
1. Ability to communicate in an active multi-office environment.
2. Ability to efficiently operate all job related office equipment (telephone, computer, calculator, fax, copier).
3. Ability to communicate via telephone.
4. Ability to sit for large portions of a workday.
