Director of Retirement & Leaves

PURPOSE

The Director of Retirement & Leaves has overall responsibility for retirement, pension, time off, disability and leave of absence benefits (Retirement/ Leaves). The person in this role will lead the development, implementation, communication, and administration of all benefit programs to include employee retirement, pension, time off and all leave programs. Monitors plan metrics, benchmarks trends and legislative/regulatory updates to develop plan recommendations that align with company strategy. Develops and supports a strong benefits team by fostering a culture of continual process improvement and learning for all department team members with an emphasis on our team members as customers. Ensures compliance with all state and federal mandates pertaining to employee benefits. Partners with internal and external partners as necessary in the fulfillment of duties and responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Strategize, design, and oversee administrative systems, processes, and procedures for efficient management of Fresenius’ retirement/leave programs.
• Knowledge in leave administration and related laws and regulations, including but not limited to ERISA, HIPAA, ADA, FMLA, PFL.
• Oversee outsourced Leave administration and internal leave of absence service team to assure compliance.
• Directs employee benefit, employee recognition, and retirement program strategy and administration.
• Lead the development of a multi-year strategic roadmap for planning, processing, and reporting retirement/leave programs.
• Develop strategies for change and collaborate with our broader HR Operational teams to deploy them.
• Manage outsourced vendor relationships to ensure quality of service delivery in overall administration.
• Lead retirement/leave enrollment and changes, participant communication, and billing processes.
• Monitors and analyzes the effectiveness of current benefit programs to ensure the attraction and retention of team members. Manage improvements and growth.
• Strategically design, measure and implement benefits programs aligned with the people and business strategies, objectives, benchmarking, and desired competitive position.
• Stays abreast of all trends and market conditions as they relate to retirement/leave plans and makes recommendations to senior leadership, as necessary.
• Manages overall benefits spend and identifies areas of opportunities. Provides updates on trends and financials with Director of Global Benefits and Finance.
• Oversees administration, engagement and growth of all retirement, time off and leave plans.
• Serves as the expert regarding benefit issues; provides guidance on and interpretation of benefit plans to HR and management.
• Review, approve and submit related forms, filings pertaining to pension, retirement and leave programs.
• Oversees pension funding and the methodology to include approval of related benefit invoices and purchases with affiliated companies.
• Assure that related processes, procedures, and plans are created, signed by the appropriate committees and in compliance with regulations and amendments (such as ERISA, HIPPA, ADA, IRS, SEC, and other state related requirements).
• Participate in annual testing/audits related to retirement/leave plans (such as Annual Non-discrimination testing).
• Partner with brokers, vendors and/or consultants regarding renewals, negotiations, benefit plan design, claim utilization, and cost management.
• Evaluate and compare existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information. Analyze results of surveys and develop specific plan design recommendations/
• Responsible for Administration Committee for retirement plans.
• Directs processes to ensure regulatory compliance. Assures overall compliance with ERISA requirements.
• Negotiates with vendors providing consultation, legal, actuarial, and outsourcing services for employee benefit plans.
• Manage plan vendors and record keepers to ensure adherence to administrative agreements.
• Participate in strategic planning and budget process regarding retirement/ leave programs.
• Develop marketing strategies and communication plans that promote offerings.
• Manages projects as appropriate by researching, evaluating, and providing input on options for new plan features or designing new plans to incorporate company initiatives or legislative requirements.
• Manages a department to ensure achievement of functional and budget/financial goals.
• Participates in due diligence and manages integrations related to merger and acquisition activity regarding benefits.
• Manages and promotes the tuition reimbursement and scholarship program
• Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises assigned team members including staff selection and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field
• Seven (7) to ten (10) + years leave and benefits management experience, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• 5 years’ management experience
• CBP, CEBS certification preferred.
