JOB DESCRIPTION
The Cultural Coordinator will coordinate and implement programming related to the cultural relevance, cultural sensitivity, and health and wellness practices for the Native American Community. The position will provide cultural advising to Native American community members and GLIIHC staff pursuing support and advice on Native American culture, traditions, and approaches to wellness.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for the daily operations of the aspects of cultural and spiritual significance, connecting health and wellness for the Native Community;
• Provides trainings to internal (GLIIHC) and external service providers on culturally appropriate responses to treating the American Indian/Alaska Native population;
• Takes a lead role in planning, supporting, and including cultural activities that promote community wellness, i.e. weekly wellness workshops, Community Health Fair, Pow wows, Community Harvest Dinner, Holiday Toy Program, Culture Program Round Dance etc.;
• Promotes intergenerational learning that supports cultural identity and self-concept;
• Provides cultural programming support for the Youth Empowerment Program, Circles of Strength Program, and Substance Abuse Programming;
• Works with WOLFE Programming on Wednesdays to support;
• Participates in meetings to provide consultation on cultural and spiritual aspects of project activities;
• Co-facilitates monthly sweat lodge ceremonies with Cultural Coordinator;
• Facilitates/ Co-Facilitates Talking circles;
• Develops flyers and materials for activities and events with GLIIHC Marketing Director;
• Organizes and assists in promoting important seasonal or ceremonial observances that strengthen community ties, self-identity, cultural connection, and spiritual knowledge in American Indian/Alaska Native communities;
• Leads the GLIIHC Agency Cultural Committee;
• Provides key cultural and spiritual components for community education through trainings, workshops, and outreach events on suicide prevention and related topics;
• Assists with the development and facilitation of cultural and spiritual aspects of various Health Center programs;
• Participates in professional development and training to obtain additional knowledge about suicide prevention and response

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

• Minimum qualifications include significant training from tribal elders of tribes in Wisconsin; and/or an associates or Bachelor’s degree in Native American studies;
• At least 2-5 years of experience leading cultural and spiritual activities that promote Native wellness and health within a traditional framework. 
• Ability to impart teachings and education to a variety of audiences i.e. youth, elders, and community audience.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with Native American constituencies
Experience working as an Advisor/Mentor
Experience with online and web-based tools to support members of the Native American community

Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Work is performed in an office environment utilizing various office equipment including, but not limited to, a computer, copy machine, fax machine, and multi-line phone. Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone, by computer and in person. Ability to perform well in a fast-paced work environment.
