Are you a seasoned professional with expertise in state government relations? Are you ready to lead a dynamic team in developing and implementing strategic government affairs initiatives across all 50 states and Puerto Rico? If so, we are looking for someone like you to drive our organization’s interests forward within state legislatures.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor our State Government Affairs team and manage external consultants to identify critical legislative issues and craft proactive strategies, objectives, and policies.
Strategic Direction: Establish clear objectives and strategic direction for the team, ensuring alignment with our business priorities in policies and advocacy efforts.
Collaboration: Work closely with the Government Affairs Leadership Team to align state government affairs activities with overarching strategic goals.
Stakeholder Engagement: Represent our organization in discussions on state government affairs with key stakeholders, including third-party groups and trade associations.
Relationship Building: Build and maintain strong relationships with state legislators, governors, regulators, and officials to advocate for policies supporting our organization’s objectives.
Communication: Oversee the creation of informational materials to keep management and employees informed on state policy developments affecting our operations.
Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to relevant policies and laws, especially those concerning interactions with state government officials.
Strategic Contributions: Develop and implement strategic contributions to state candidates.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in state government relations, with experience in Puerto Rico considered an asset.
Leadership Skills: Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills with the ability to inspire others and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Track Record: Proven success in strategy development, execution, and achieving impactful results in public policy, legislation, and regulations.
Industry Knowledge: Experience in healthcare, particularly pharmaceuticals, and a comprehensive understanding of the US reimbursement system, including Medicaid, 340B, the Affordable Care Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act, preferred.
Skills: Strong analytical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills, with effective written and verbal communication abilities.
Team Player: Collaborative mindset, thriving in a high-performance work culture.
Travel: Willingness to travel domestically 25-35% of the time, with occasional international travel.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, political science, public administration, public policy, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
