The Harris County Juvenile Probation Department (HCJPD) provides supervision and services to youth between the ages of 10 and 17, who are under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court. HCJPD is the largest juvenile probation department in Texas with approximately 1,100 employees and over 3,500 youth referred to the department annually. HCJPD programs and services operate under the direction of the Harris County Juvenile Board. The Administration building is located in Downtown Houston, Texas, with several field offices throughout the County and three secure residential facilities.

About Human Resources:
The Human Resources (HR) division provides overall policy direction on human resources management and administrative support to all staff. It oversees various actions to develop the human capital and talent of Harris County Juvenile Probation (HCJPD). This division is responsible for recruitment, hiring, benefits, compensation, organizational development, employee relations and training. HR plays a strategic role in business management and the fostering of a positive workplace culture which contributes significantly to HCJPD’s overall success.
About the Position:
The Human Resources Assistant is primarily responsible for greeting and assisting staff and visitors to the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department in person and over the telephone. In addition to performing clerical and administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the Human Resources division.
Job Duties:
Greets and assists visitors in person and by telephone, determines the nature of business and directs to appropriate personnel
Assists with the on-boarding process by performing data entry, tracking status of applications and proctoring assessments
Performs duties to successfully progress applicants/vendors/volunteers/interns through the hiring process from beginning to end
Maintains accurate and up-to-date Human Resources’ databases, records and documentation by ensuring all files (Posting/Personnel/Criminal/Medical/TWC, etc.) are accessible and well maintained by conducting routine verification assessments
Supports Human Resources Managers with gathering data and documents and assists Human Resources Specialists with applicant recruitment and hiring. As well as maintaining materials for career fairs and other events.

Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Experience:
Two (2) years of paid experience in an office clerical role
30 hours of college credits from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of experience
Additional Requirements:
Employees who hold this position are required to possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s license. Employee must maintain liability insurance in at least the minimum amounts required by law.
Certified copies of transcripts of educational credentials and/or college credits will be required during hiring process
Must be 21 years old
Also requires the ability to demonstrate proficient use of the personal computer and must pass the clerical exam with a score of at least 85%

Additional Information:
All new employees are required to undergo and pass a criminal background check, a physical examination administered by the Department Approved Contract Physician. At the time of the physical, applicants must present evidence of a tuberculosis (TB) skin test. In the event of a positive test, the applicant will be required to provide additional documentation
