Job Description
HDR is currently looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to support our growing dams and civil works practice with specialized expertise related to constructability and cost estimating for dams, levees, and civil works projects. Requires geotechnical engineering experience including but not limited to performing quantity calculations, preparing specifications, performing complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Specialized experience is desired in two key technical areas:
Constructability and Construction Management: Experience should demonstrate a growing knowledge and awareness of geotechnical construction means and methods and an understanding of the necessary interaction between construction and civil, structural and geotechnical engineering disciplines. Construction and engineering design understanding shall be employed to provide geotechnical design support, constructability reviews and input, and cost and schedule understanding. Assisting design engineers with conceptual level design alternatives based on construction knowledge and practicality of constructing the intended designs.
Additionally, the candidate would have direct geotechnical construction management experience related to supervising field construction activities involving general construction and/or trade subcontractors (maintaining accurate daily record of construction site activities and producing required reports on progress, safety, quality, schedule, and budget status). The position may require temporary assignments to provide geotechnical site investigation management services (field/resident engineer).
Cost Estimating: Developing, evaluating, compiling, and presenting scope and cost estimates for dam, levee, and civil works projects. Prepares and implements procedures for conducting estimates and establishes structures and presentation formats for estimates. Responsible for completeness and accuracy of estimates within defined parameters. Estimates may reflect any part or total project, or changes to the project. Coordinates with design and construction staff to obtain estimate scope and schedule data upon which to base estimates. Capable of preparing comprehensive cost estimate reports including laboring, market and job condition factors. May participate in negotiations with contractors. Prepares and implements procedures for conducting estimates and establishes structures and presentation formats for estimates.

Benefits and Compensation:

The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $95,000 – $120,000 annually and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
