About the Highlander Mountain House
Highland Mountain House (“HMH”) is an English Country House Hotel transposed into the mountains of Appalachia. HMH is hilltop retreat on Main Street in the Highlands of North Carolina, offering guests a cozy and memorable experience while beckoning the locals to eat, drink and feel at home. Located in the heart of town in one of the most historic buildings, HMH and The Ruffed Grouse bring a new chapter to the revered old Main Street Inn. HMH is rustic yet refined, and above all else warm and welcoming. HMH aspires to be the area’s cultural hub with a steady diet of eclectic music, arts, and the artists who create both in the form of performances and salon-style lecture series and workshops. HMH has received a lot of great press from Garden & Gun, One Kings Lane, Plateau Magazine and Laurel Magazine, among many others.
The Ruffed Grouse (“TRG”), housed inside, carries all the vibes of Highland Mountain House, capturing the spirit of camaraderie with the promise of good food and drink. With a bar, a restaurant and an active outdoor dining space, Ruffed Grouse serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner driven by the backbone of the area — local and regional farms, the
waterways and fisheries and above all, the seasons. Taking inspiration from the taverns and pubs in Europe, TRG will be a communal gathering place for locals and travelers. From classic cocktails to excellent coffee service and from savory small plates to Sunday brunch, there will be wine, wit and excellent tavern fare. TRG will also host guest chef dinners with acclaimed chefs from around the country as well as wine pairing dinners and cooking classes throughout the year.
