Position Overview

The Field Technician will work on a variety of projects and be responsible for field surveying, traffic control, field notes and sketches. This position will report to the Project Manager for the given project and be located within the Richmond/Fredericksburg area.

Essential Job Functions

• Review proposed site locations with engineer and route determination for accurate and timely surveys.
• Perform field audits of utility poles, street lights, traffic signals, joint use communication and power attachments on utility poles
• Work under assigned Engineering Manager or Lead Project Manager to properly file data in the system and provide daily status reports.
• Coordinate with Engineering Manager or Lead Project Manager to request and/or gather other utility drawings for specific locations.
• Conduct safety briefing discussions identifying critical work steps, the potential hazards related to those work steps, and possible control barriers.

Qualifications

• Associates degree preferred or equivalent related experience with telecommunications and/or power distribution systems.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in telecommunications and/or power systems preferred
• Experience using surveying tools such as Ike4 GPS, Trimble, Leica Geosystems, as well as KatapultPro and Vermeer applications preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required with a clean driving record for the past 5 years.

Other Skills/Abilities

• Overall understanding of Small Cell, telecommunications, OSP and/or power design engineering preferred.
• Familiarity and experience with telecommunications and/or electrical standards including National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and Blue Book standards required.
• Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook required.
• Experience reading and comprehending construction plans.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to work outdoor in all weather conditions, around energized equipment, in confined spaces, in heavy traffic and construction environment with proper PPE.
• Ability and willingness to work in a team environment.
• Ability to travel in the Virginia market 95% of the time including commit to temporary on-site assignments.

This position may require significant time standing or walking on uneven ground, possible climbing of ladders or being in high places, working in tight spaces, lifting up to 50 pounds, and, in general, being overall physically demanding.
