H.O. Penn Machinery, the Caterpillar dealer for the lower 13 counties of New York and all of the state of Connecticut, is currently HIRING for a Field Service Supervisor to join their Newington, CT team!
- This position requires off-hour on-call availability (by phone only), including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Service Manager, this position is responsible for the following tasks:
Successfully deliver and sell service of recognized superior value by providing necessary key resources (people, tooling, materials, equipment, and time):
- Effectively communicate with all stakeholders on work to be performed, changes required in scope of work, job status, etc.
- Assure repairs are completed in a timely fashion by providing accurate job information, parts, tooling, supplies, etc.
- Assure repairs are completed in a timely fashion by effectively troubleshooting and diagnosing machine problems with technicians
- Maximize technician utilization by effectively scheduling, planning, and assigning work
Maximize the effective and efficient use of the service processes to provide fast and accurate service and minimize unnecessary expense:
- Review and approve daily timecards to track and monitor technician performance against quoted hours or job standards and manage accordingly
- Advise Service Manager of changes in available work vs. staffing levels
- Continually review and improve processes
- Process jobs to be billed on a daily basis
Successfully build and maintain a culture of safety through successful completion of all safety initiatives and enforcing safe work habits:
- Conduct weekly safety meetings and ensure monthly safety audits for work area are complete
- Ensure timely communication of safety issues to direct supervisor with appropriate paperwork
- Ensure all new hires within work area complete safety orientation requirements within thirty days
- Ensure all direct reports have completed Pure Safety assignments by due dates
Staff and develop people to achieve all key results to make our service function strong:
- Build and maintain environment characterized by high productivity and morale
- Assist in selecting mechanics
- Effectively manage the performance process (goal setting, coaching, appraisal, and rewards/consequence management)
- Develop people through training, coaching, etc.
Maintain the Field Service Fleet in a cost-effective and safe manner:
- Assure the fleet is maintained in a clean and uncluttered state
- Assure the fleet and its related equipment is in sound working order
- Assure the fleet and its related equipment is operating safely
Contribute to positive customer experiences by maintaining the professionalism, appearance, and accessibility of our facilities:
- Continually assess the appearance of your area of responsibility, including cleanliness, professionalism, maintenance, and compliance with company policies
- Take corrective action on any items noted during these ongoing assessments to ensure compliance with company appearance standards
- Implement any approved company recommendations for creating a professional appearance and ensuring the accessibility of our facilities
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years’ management experience in directing labor, will consider equivalent combination of degree and work experience
- Strong computer skills and comfortable with technology in order to manage service communications and related business processes
- Strong communication and organization skills
- Must have valid & clean driver’s license
- Experience with troubleshooting and repair of construction equipment and strong mechanical aptitude
Essential Physical Job Qualifications:
- Standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time
- Hand coordination (typing and writing)
- Occasional forward bending and reaching
- Occasional walking and climbing stairs
- Carrying (up to 20lbs.)
