Homes for Independent Living (HIL) is hiring Caregivers / Direct Support Professionals in the Waukesha area for our Behavioral/developmental/mental illness programs that provide support services to adults with medical and physical needs. Employees provide hands-on assistance with personal cares and activities of daily living.

Hours: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Shift (schedules include every other weekend)
Status: Full-time and Part-time
Pay: $12.00-$14.00/hourly (NEW WAGES!!!)

Responsibilities
Essential functions include:
- Mentor, organize, and/or assist clients in their choices and actions in the areas of 1) daily living activities, 2) developing and maintaining positive self-image, 3) personal hygiene and health monitoring, 4) social and communication skills, 5) functional community skills, 6) recreational activities, and 7) budgeting and planning.
- Provide assistance with mobility and utilize specialized equipment as outlined per client ISP.
- Provide a high level of personal care services to clients; follow protocols for all complex care and utilize each client’s ISP as a resource for services provided.
- Monitor clients for behavioral changes (such as being less communicative, not eating, not sleeping). Document and report all concerns promptly. Follow procedures for taking action and notifying others.
- Administer medications per policy and promptly report any errors or concerns with medication administration to the Supervisor.
- Monitor clients for physical changes, including evidence of possible illness or injury. Document and report all concerns to the Supervisor promptly. Follow procedures for taking action and notifying others
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Maintain self-composure and self-control under stressful conditions. Clients may exhibit physical aggression, challenging, or offensive behaviors
- Demonstrate ability to provide a high level of physically demanding care to clients such as transporting to/from a wheel chair, bathing, toileting, and dressing
- Demonstrate a supportive, nurturing and caring demeanor with clients, along with providing consistent daily structure
- Valid driver’s license for 3 years with an acceptable driving record per HIL’s policy; access to an insured vehicle is strongly preferred
- Successful completion of a caregiver background check as mandated by Wisconsin Chapter DHS 12
- Successful completion of a pre-employment TB test and health screen
