HARMAN has always placed great value on the design and execution of its products and services. In 2018, the three internal design groups across the 4 divisions were reorganized into a single agency-model design organization. This design organization is named “Huemen”. Huemen will continue to deliver and lead the world-class design across all of HARMAN in the disciplines of Industrial Design, User Interface/Interaction Design, Visual Design, Packaging Design, and User Experience Design, as well Marketing Services and Future Experiences in Auto and Home.

About the Role
Huemen is seeking a Creative Director to be an integral part of Huemen Design organization. The potential candidate should have 10-14 years of relevant experience, of which 4-5 years includes leading a team. They will partner with leaders across multiple design studios and other business units to promote and incorporate the Huemen approach and vision within and outside the company. The candidate will build business operation models to drive innovation and enhance the experiences delivered. The Creative Director will cultivate the culture of the studio, guide high impact design engagements, and lead multiple teams with a variety of skill sets to excel. They will be responsible for integrating solutions from the Product Design team, Digital Solution team and Marketing Services team to create memorable consumer experiences. They will be building and leading a team that is responsible for designing, developing & productizing holistic experiences grounded in User Centric Design Process.

Reports to Vice President and General Manager Global Design. Will be Creative Lead for a cross-studio team & have multiple direct reports
What You Will Do
The ideal candidate will be an active, passionate, hands-on design leader to who supports business development opportunities, engages directly with client stakeholders and executives, cultivating an environment that feeds design quality and excellence, and has the ambition of building the studio to its highest potential. Responsibilities will include:
Lead creative direction of the digital design team
Collaborate on simultaneous projects from inception to completion – scoping, reviewing project plans, designs, and through to deliverables
Lead the team and personally ensure to deliver the highest quality of design direction, style and methodology
Guide the creation and facilitation of design workshops, structured brainstorms, or other collaboration exercises to provide expert direction to the team, the clients, and act as a thought leader to the industry
Identify and drive process improvements to meet project and team needs
Monitor and drive your team to best utilize the skillset to exceed client expectations and elevate client engagement
Show entrepreneurial spirit as a proven self-starter who is energetic, pragmatic and welcoming of ambiguous challenges
Inspire your creative team with the energy, passion, and thought leadership to build a long-term healthy organization
Effectively communicate, motivate, coach and develop design excellence
Promote a culture of innovation and teamworkbased in professionalism and quality
Mentor and grow the careers of associate design talent and direct reports
Participate in recruiting and hiring design team to build a group of passionate designers who share Huemen’s core values and principles
Identify, define and regularly pitch new opportunities to bring value to client engagements
Personally lead and take full responsibility for one top-tier client
Establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective leader
Maintain a presence in the design industry and local design community by writing articles, contributing to publications, speaking at conferences, and/or sitting on panels
Evangelize our design practice to internal and external stakeholders from designers to executive leadership
Identify, define and regularly pitch new opportunities to bring value to client engagements
Function as team’s advocate, to the engineering, analytics, sales and project management teams
Participate in the creative role of business development to establish and nurture good client working relationships in new business development activities through to account leadership
Collaborate with business development team to create and develop new business opportunities
What You Need
10-14 years relevant experience in digital design, with 4-5 years’ experience in a creative, project and people management role.
B.S. degree in relevant field
Portfolio samples of recent work
Experience in building sales and business development opportunities
Ability to analyze and understand new domains quickly, become the “timely expert”
Ability to maintain context on multiple assignments to contribute effectively
Ability to spearhead stakeholder discussions
Experience in Project Scope estimation and management, Pitch Delivery
Strong leadership and people management skills
Strong Knowledge of the design process and program management
Ability to negotiate and coordinate across multiple groups and disciplines
Sales experience with C-level executives, focused on client-side design opportunities
Entrepreneurial spirit w/ ability to thrive in dynamic, ambiguous, & fast-paced environment
What is Nice to Have
Exposure to working across time zone and locations is preferred.
Strong understanding of contemporary technology platforms and emerging technologies
Automotive HMI design and/or Design for/in Mobility experience is preferred
Consulting experience strongly preferred
Recent experience launching complex digital products
What Makes You Eligible
Be willing to travel up to 35%, domestic and international travel
Be willing to work in an office at least 3 days a week in Mountain View, California
