Mission Summary
The mission of a Human Resources Generalist for HVJ, a leading specialty engineering firm in Texas, is to handle or coordinate all aspects of workforce management consistent with the firm’s vision; while being someone who is knowledgeable and motivated professional who leads by example, loves to work for the people, and strives for excellence.
This includes responsibility for:
Implementing strategies and procedures for employee sourcing, hiring, performance management, growth and development, payroll processing, compensation, termination and related duties per established processes, guidelines and policies (and using specialty HR Service providers)
Maintenance of all HR-related databases, records and files
Business Insurance Management (including negotiating and coordinating policy renewals and claims)
This position will also work closely with the Finance/Admin Manager, Hiring Managers, Operations, VP and President to ensure smooth and efficient business operations across multiple locations throughout Texas.
What You Will Do…
Assist in developing and executing personnel procedures and policies, providing guidance and interpretation for business and people operations.
Track time off and ensure all FMLA, Leave of Absence, Workers Compensation and Unemployment processes are handled with efficient care and swiftness.
Ensure legal compliance of HR state and federal regulations and applicable employment laws and has the drive to update policies and/or procedures as required.
Benefits administration, including employee assistance for general questions, benefit enrollment, 401k and all other employee benefits.
Lead the new hire onboarding process.
Management of annual employee reviews process; as well as continued audit to ensure the current process is best in class.
Manage and resolve employee relations issues. Respond to and provide guidance to management and team members on employee-related issues, complaints, or problems. Counsel, coach and assist management in handling and addressing employee relation issues.
Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations. Provide consultation to managers with respect to performance management, employee development, disciplinary actions, etc.
The ability to suggest new procedures and policies to continually improve efficiency of the HR department and organization, and to improve the employee experience.
Submit federal/state required compliance reporting and filings.
Generate reports and analyze data for financial management and budget forecasting
Assist with payroll administration.
Manage all recruiting, interviewing, and facilitating the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
Provide guidance to managers and team members by fielding questions and workflow.
Assists in the development and implementation of safety training programs for compliance with OSHA regulations and other federal, state, or local requirements.
Manage and plan all company special events.
Manage system administrator rights with various vendors.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Key Competencies:
Six to eight years of relevant hands-on experience in Human Resources, especially related to Payroll, Recruiting Performance Management, Employee Growth and Development, Compensation and Benefits
SHRM or PHR certifications strongly preferred.
Experience working within a civil or geotechnical engineering firm strongly preferred.
Experience or familiarity with immigration processes and guidelines related to employment is preferred.
College degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field is preferred but experience can be substituted.
Experience or familiarity with HR-related software (especially Deltek Vision/Talent, BambooHR, ADP Workforce, and Envoy Global) is preferred.
Experience in accounting, business insurance and other administrative services required.
Strong math and computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Strong written/oral communication skills.
Ability to analyze and resolve challenges with little or no supervision.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust/rapport with stakeholders and all levels of personnel.
Strong organizational and commitment management skills, detail oriented with focus on accuracy/consistency.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Must have the ability to occasionally travel to our other office locations in Texas. (Approximately 5% or less travel)
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
