SUMMARY OF POSITION
The San Diego Community and Government Affairs Lead will be an instrumental member of Impact Housing’s Communications Team, which is responsible for the external communications of the company, its business units, and each of its real estate development projects.
Under the direction of the Chief Communications Officer, the Community and Government Affairs Lead will manage community, government, and public relations initiatives for the company’s San Diego presence and its San Diego development projects. The Community and Government Affairs Lead will be expected to consider the interests and perspectives of multiple community, government, and private sector constituencies to steer our projects through complex processes and toward successful completion.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and execute community engagement strategies for San Diego-based projects, in coordination with corporate, acquisitions, and development teams. This includes develop a community engagement scope (described below) and schedule, provide regular reports to project and corporate teams, and ensure project team accomplish milestones on schedule and within allotted budget.
Plan and execute government relations plan to secure approvals and support for projects in the San Diego region.
Establish and maintain a network of community and government contacts in San Diego. The database should include high-level officials and executives, housing advocates, community leaders, as well as front-line personnel with whom we should expect to have regular interactions.
Develop a campaign to identify all potential sources of project delays and establish a programmatic agreement or solution, utilizing existing and new relationships within the public sector.
Track and influence relevant local policy development, media coverage, and political dynamics that relate to the company’s work
Develop and deploy an outreach strategy to ensure community and government stakeholders’ support of Impact Housing development model and specific projects. The outreach strategy may include but is not limited to:
Executing a digital marketing strategy, including a regular newsletter
Setting up one-on-one meetings with key stakeholders
Organizing community events and forums
Representing Impact Housing on local boards and through organizational memberships
Creating collateral with contracted experts in public relations, government relations, and visual communications
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Passion and enthusiasm for providing needed housing to people and communities that need it most.
Familiarity with the entitlement process in San Diego. Exposure to Los Angeles and other southern California cities is a plus.
Established professional network in the City of San Diego among community leaders and city officials.
Track record of accomplishing key milestones and getting community buy-in on real estate development projects.
Knowledge of community engagement tactics for generating support for real estate development projects.
Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
Capable of producing results independently and as a member of a team.
