Provides support services to IT Specialist(s) to coordinate, oversee and perform on-site technical services involving extensive project management and feasibility studies; participates in the development and design of integrated environments; participates in the development, configuration, initialization, testing, maintenance and troubleshooting of program applications and procedural language for such integrated computer environments; regularly supervises lower level IT Support Clerks and/or Technicians assigned to projects and/or within an organizational unit; provides training and technical assistance to users; and performs other duties as required.
Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or GED.
Specialized Experience: Three (3) years of experience in an IT operational entity which demonstrated knowledge of mini/micro, mainframe, and/or network computer components and involved the use of:
a. networking equipment (e.g. modems, line drivers);
b. various mini and micro computer application programs (e.g., word processing, database, spreadsheets, electronic mail); and
c. peripheral equipment (e.g., laser printers, disk drives, UPS – uninterruptible power supply).
Project Management Experience: One (1) year of technical experience in a IT operational entity which involved assisting in the conversion of existing localized environments; in the configuration, integration and maintenance of multiple environments; in the development of program applications; and writing and editing procedural language, including but not limited to, mainframe system(s), Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) systems. Such experience must have provided demonstrated knowledge of:
a. computerized system procedure requirements;
b. relationships between computerized components, functions, structures and operations;
c. program testing methods and procedures;
d. an understanding of structural concepts relating to the integration of multiple environments; and
e. a variety of individual user and system program applications.
Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants for the IT Support Technician IV level must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in a similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
Substitutions Allowed:
1. Successful completion of a two-year degree (e.g., Associate’s Degree) from an accredited technical school, college or university in a Computer Science or Information Technology/Electronics/ Networking Technology related field may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.
2. Successful completion of a certified program (e.g., Microsoft Windows NT; Novell Netware, etc.) and passing a series of proficiency tests administered at an official testing center which resulted in becoming a certified engineer (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Certified Novell Engineer) may be substituted for the minimum qualification requirements of the IT Support Technician II class.
3. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology/Electronics/ Networking Technology related field or comparable major from an accredited college or university will be deemed to have met all the requirements for the IT Support Technician II class.
Selective Certification Requirement – Driver’s License: This position requires a current and valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.
