As a Government Relation Strategist, and reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Relations – you will provide input into and implement legislative and policy initiatives and strategies related to industry and community specific issues of interest to Innergex, at all levels of government. Draft, negotiate and advocate Innergex’s position through white papers, testimonies, public comment responses, proposed legislation and other appropriate activities.

Your day-to-day!
Provide expert knowledge and lead the analysis and recommendations of solutions to business impacts of new government policies;
Be the main point of contact for Innergex with appointed and elected officials in assigned region;
Develop and implement the state government relations advocacy programs for all INE assets and interests in the states within assigned region, ensuring the Government Relations activities are supporting the INE’s business objectives and strategic plan;
Develop and implement communication strategies for legislative engagement. Utilize trade organizations, contract lobbyists and grassroots activities to achieve desired outcomes for INE;
Establish strategic engagement plans for emerging issues that impact legislation, regulation and local ordinances that support market development for the US markets;
Working with Legal, ensure all activities and consultants/lobbyists comply with federal and state rules and all required filing and documentation is done in compliance with the respective rules and regulations and Innergex’s Lobbying policy;
Collaborating with the Regulatory/Policy Advisor, represent the company within the industry and the government in assigned markets to share positions and perspectives on policy and regulatory issues and to facilitate efforts in bringing the industry’s perspective to the forefront of policy development and on issues that affect the industry;
Lead & maintain relationships with trade organizations and brief the broader Innergex teams on issues and opportunities that align with our business goals;
Lead the establishment and maintenance of strategic relationships and partnerships with organizations that share similar goals to the company and with Non-Governmental Organizations;
When authorized to do so, speak on behalf of the company at events and forums, with a focus on enhancing the strategic objectives and position of the company;
Maintain current knowledge of legislation, regulations, standards, and best management practices that pertain to the renewable energy industry;
Provide mentorship and cross-functional training to employees and colleagues within the Corporate Relations Business Unit.
Your skills, our requirements!
Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of relevant experience in government relations;
Experience in USA government process and structure;
Experience in Community and stakeholder engagement;
Strong interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills;
Experience in energy or electricity markets, an asset;
Experience in renewable energy industry, an asset;
Proficient in English, both oral and written. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an asset.
