We are looking for a subject matter expert/curriculum writer to join us in creating curriculum content aligning to NGSS Conceptual Physics Standards. In this role, you will work with an Instructional Designer and Principal Program and Curriculum Designer to produce written course material aligned with learning objectives. The activities and assessments must also meet the DOK levels requested for each standard. These materials can be curated and then modified using OER content under these two licenses: CC0 Public Domain Dedication or Attribution, CC BY 4.0. When content cannot be found, original text must be authored.
Responsibilities:
- Consistently deliver content that meets set criteria and is on time to support our client commitments
- Create new and revised instructional content for the online program curriculum
- Create assets student activities and written curriculum content such as: Formative and summative assessments, individual projects and presentation visual assets and/or reference images (diagrams, charts) and sample templates as needed
- Iterate on deliverables based upon feedback
The ideal Instructional Design Curriculum Writer will meet the following qualifications:
- Experience teaching or developing curriculum in the subject area as referenced above
- Craft engaging and relevant lessons using backwards design and deconstructing standards
- Extensive understanding of and experience with the interdependent relationship between curriculum, instructional design, standards, and assessment
- Ability to clearly explain difficult concepts, written at a 7th– to 8th–grade reading level
- Collaborate with other instructional designers and content writers
- Ability to iterate and improve content based on feedback and data
- Adhere to a deadline-driven workflow by completing the appropriate scope and sequence of work within the timeline required at each phase
- Experience using Google Suite (ex: Docs and Drive) is required. Report progress by marking tasks complete using Asana or communicating needs by adding comments to Asana tasks. Willingness to use our Instructure email & Slack system for communication.
- Canvas LMS experience is a plus, but not required.
- Have at least 25 hours per week to devote to project work until June 2023. If you have fewer hours, you are welcome to apply, as we may be able to combine you with another writer.

- Please include a personalized cover letter and share why you’d like to work for Instructure as an Instructional on a contractor basis and how your skills are suited for content writing.
- Record a 3-5 minute screencast where you walk us through the text-based curriculum you have originally authored focusing on the following: 1) How the learning objectives align to standards. 2) Strategies you have crafted specifically to engage the learner. 3) Samples of assessment questions of varying DOK’s. Please note, we are looking for student-facing instructional content, not video lectures nor lesson plans.
- The screencast should clearly demonstrate your expertise as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the content area from above. If the content you show was collaborative, identify your role and contribution.
