Summary:
Reporting to the Health Information Systems (HIS) Manager, the Database Developer, in partnership with the HIS team, develops and implements highly effective information technology strategies and platforms related to acquiring, collecting, aggregating, analyzing, and disseminating health information vital to supporting member practices in providing quality patient care, as well as supporting community-wide efforts for health outcomes improvement. In addition, he/she provides leadership and/or direct oversight for network, architecture, and database systems, as well as the development of data integrity processes at all points of data transfer.
Essential Functions:
1. Identifies database requirements by interviewing customers and analyzes department applications, programming, and operations. Evaluates existing systems and designs proposed systems.
2. Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functionality capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
3. Assists in writing complex queries and stored procedures and optimizes execution efficiency in MS SQL Server environment.
4. Provides SQL report writing support to HIS team.
5. Imports data from a variety of external sources, utilizing Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services.
6. Coordinates development, implementation, and maintenance of interfaces with various electronic medical record vendors, hospitals, pharmacy benefit managers, health plans, employers, health information exchange (HIE), and other sources and recipients of data.
7. Monitors and modifies database applications in an ever-changing health informatics environment.
8. Provides system reports and queries to ensure health information systems are running at peak performance.
9. Supports database users by conducting training, providing information, and resolving problems.
10. Takes ownership and uses proper technical knowledge to provide information to HIS team, management, and executive leadership to reach best outcomes for problem solving and decision-making purposes.
11. Collaborates and communicates with HIS and cross-functional team members daily.
12. Delivers quality customer service by establishing and demonstrating organization standards.
Additional Responsibilities/Duties:

1. Maintains knowledge of health plan incentive programs (BCBSM, BCN, Priority Health, Aetna, HAP, McLaren, Meridian, and UnitedHealthcare) related to the work performed in HIS.
2. Collaborates with HIS team members and staff members at Integrated Health Partners (IHP) to support implementation of IHP’s strategic goals and outcomes.
3. Develops positive and productive relationships with current and potential IHP clients and vendors.
4. Maintains a high-level understanding of HIPAA and the impact on IHP’s responsibilities for Protected Health Information access, use, and disclosure.
5. Represents IHP on state, regional, and community groups, if applicable.
6. Participates in culture development and building a strong team for delivering IHP’s mission.
7. Demonstrates commitment to providing outstanding customer service in a manner that is reflective of IHP’s mission, vision, values, organizational context, code of conduct, and customer service standards.
8. Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement, develops related plans of action, and implements process and documentation improvements.
9. Committed to continuing professional development.
10. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, IHP’s Compliance Program & Code of Conduct as well as other policies and procedures, in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

Education/Experience:
Required Education and Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, informtion systems, or related field or in another field with requisite experience required.
2. Five years of related professional experience, including strong work experience in relevant information systems, including but not limited to, SQL Server, Microsoft Access, VBA/SQL Coding, etc.
3. Experience and/or ability to work with diverse populations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
1. Experience in information systems, data connectivity, data warehouse management, database management, data integrity, Tableau, and/or report writing.
2. Experience with writing and editing queries in Transact-SQL (T-SQL), and importing data with Microsoft SQL Integration Services.
3. Microsoft Certified in Database Fundamentals or similar certification.
4. Health care experience.

1. Thorough understanding of needs related to comprehensive health information documentation standards with additional knowledge of electronic health record applications.
2. Working knowledge of project management functions and techniques; utilize project management skills and identify task dependencies and critical paths.

4. Experience with utilities and software and hardware setup and installation practices.
5. Ability to comprehend workflow and integration of electronic applications into the current hybrid environment.

7. Possesses a high-level knowledge on nonstructural data store concepts and data strategies.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a hybrid schedule between professional office environment and options for working from home. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is largely a desk-bound role; however, frequent movement throughout the office is required. Frequent sitting, standing, and walking are daily activities. Some bending and filing may be required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Hours of operation are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some scheduled evening events. Work hours may vary by position with some positions requiring extended workdays depending on business needs. A typical work week for an exempt position averages 45 hours worked per week.
Travel:
This position requires up to 5 percent travel. Majority of travel will be in Southwest Michigan; however, additional travel may be required as needed. This job may have additional requirements for working on-site or embedded within a member practice or business partner and will be considered an alternate work site. Additional requirements may vary based on facility or regulatory requirements for the alternate work site.
