This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.
Aurora Water – Planning, Engineering, and Technology Division
Aurora Water is responsible for providing life sustaining services to the residents, visitors, and businesses of Aurora. We plan, design, operate, and maintain the drinking water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems throughout the City. Our major infrastructure includes three potable water treatment facilities (totaling over 200 million gallons per day), a reclaimed water treatment facility, and over three dozen pump stations, lift stations, and major PRVs. Aurora Water’s mission is to enhance and protect the quality of life for Aurora citizens by providing safe, dependable, and sustainable water, sewer, and stormwater services, today and in the future.
The Aurora Water Planning Services team works closely with internal staff and consultants to develop master plans, create asset management plans, and perform modeling analyses to support the utility.
THE POSITION
This posting is for a Planning and Engineering Services Intern. This position will perform general junior level civil engineering assignments which may include, but no be limited to, performing research and reviews related to plans, drainage plan review intake, assistance with completion of the utility’s Water Loss and House Bill 10-1051 reporting, data analysis to inform decision making, and other design efforts and evaluations. Some GIS experience is helpful. Hours are projected at +/- 25 hours per week dependent on workload over the course of the year. The internship will primarily consist of office assignments, but the selected candidate may have the opportunity to attend site visits. The position may require in-person and virtual work dependent upon training and task needs.
