POSITION SUMMARY: (The primary function/purpose of this job.)
The Route Engineer will work with the Route Engineer team in building routes for an entire branch and direct the field in start times, loading points, and delivery sequence. The team is responsible for Route Forecast and Route Actual report completion and adjustments to the data. This team is the primary trainer for newly developed transportation routing software, analysis of the routes being run and adjustments to routes for changes needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The major task areas required of the incumbents to successfully perform in this job.)
· Analyzes transportation costs to evaluate routing opportunities, efficiencies, profitability and density. Directly responsible for routes and increasing efficiency including driver start times, load points and route.
· Creates datasets and conducts statistical analysis of benchmark data.
· Draws insight from data analysis; assists with interpretation and presentation of results. Oversees analysis of data to train and coach District Managers and Lead Drivers in the field on best practices for efficient routes and cost per gallon awareness.
· Performs analytical support in conjunction with transportation trends, best practices, benchmarking, spend
and costs.
· Prepares financial analysis and modeling for tank wagon and transport fleets.
· Communicates with Regional Operations Managers as it pertains to safety and customer service issues.
· Provides input into the establishment of operating strategies for key areas of performance including:
Customer satisfaction; expense control; delivery efficiency; margin enhancement; asset utilization and
optimization; safety and compliance.
· Provides input into the development of the annual operating budgets.
· Provides input into the establishment of key metrics and reviews performance against operating plans and
budgets.
· Monitors the use of equipment, facilities, and personnel, and makes recommendations for optimization.
· Helps ensure governmental compliance relative to trucks, employees and facilities.
· Coordinates and collaborates with other departments in establishing and carrying out responsibilities
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: (Minimum requirements to competently perform the key responsibilities of this job in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications or other knowledge, skills, and abilities.)
· Bachelor’s Degree required. Preference for a degree in operations, logistics, or supply chain.
· 3 years of experience is preferred.
· Strong technology skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and transportation routing software.
Ability to travel nationally within the company’s footprint; to 25%.
