for a Senior Software Test Engineer- Firmware to help drive results and efficiency within our V&V team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Senior Software Test Engineer is responsible for verification and validation of microcontroller firmware written in C. Main activities include requirements gathering, writing manual/automated tests and performing static code analysis on bare metal and RTOS-based MCUs. As a key member of the V&V team, this individual will work closely with Engineering and Product Management and must have a strong background in testing electronic products.

Requirements

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Read and analyze firmware for electronic products written in C.
• Maintain, architect and implement automated test modules written in Python for use in Engineering and Manufacturing.
• Write automated tests using Python, communicating with hardware via protocols such as UART and I2C.
• Perform static analysis, code coverage and code that is affected on MCU firmware written in C.
• Design and run tests against firmware using equipment including humidity/environmental chambers and temperature test baths, compiling and analyzing/charting results.
• Find hardware bugs and soldering defects using microscopes, meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and similar electronics lab equipment.
• Research, recommend and source new test equipment and software.
• Work closely with developers and product managers to distill product requirements into test cases.
• Responsible for developing test plans and lead/organize testing activities in project sprints.
• Maintain the test case management system and Git repositories for automation code and tooling.
• Soldering/re-work of surface-mount components.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of V&V experience who has demonstrated increased responsibility throughout career.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent experience.
• Able to understand MCU systems and firmware written in C (both bare metal and RTOS-based systems).
• Significant experience writing clean, well architected Python programs for automated test systems that interface with hardware using UART and I2C protocols.
• Experience controlling equipment such as waveform generators, ADCs, power analyzers, precision voltage/current meters and environmental chambers with Python using common serial protocols.
• Ability to understand PCB schematics and troubleshoot problems using lab equipment including microscopes, DMMs, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• Proficient at gathering and distilling product requirements into clear, thorough test cases and project test plans.
• Experience using Git, cloud-based source control and ticketing systems (GitHub, GitLab, Jira) and test case management systems such as TestRail.
• Meticulous and organized with strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Must be able to work independently in a small company environment with preferred experience working in an electronics R&D environment.

Travel / Work Location

Hybrid work environment that can accommodate remote work with some regular need to be in the office (likely 1-2x per week). Located in Boothwyn, PA. Occasional travel may be required for training, evaluation of capital test equipment, or working with consulting engineers.

Pay Rate

This is a salaried position. Pay rate commensurate with qualifications and experience as well as company size. Annual bonus based on company and individual performance
