Summary/Objective
With minimal supervision, monitors the transport system and all customer services from the Network Operation Center, analyzes events and resolves or coordinates the resolve of all issues in a 24 X 7 environment with critical uptime requirements. Provisions services on a regional MPLS, DWDM and Next Generation SONET transport system. Maintains Enterprise routers, switches and firewalls. Performs administrative duties such as network troubleshooting, script execution and software patching and upgrading.
Essential Functions
Knowledge
Should have general understanding of telecommunication theories that includes: MPLS, DWDM and SONET architecture, layer 3 routing, T1 hierarchy, multiplexing, reliability, latency and OSI protocols. The position requires general knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, Ethernet, RSTP, VLAN switching, quality of service, and IP. Additionally, requires knowledge of POP and CO installation and wiring practices. Knowledge of transport system equipment hardware and software documentation and specifications. Test equipment operation and documentation. Locally generated documentation, such as spreadsheets and written procedures. IEEE standards and IETF RFCs.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Should have general knowledge of analyzing and troubleshooting Ethernet, MPLS, SONET, TDM and DWDM services and equipment. General understanding in the use of TDM, SONET and Ethernet test equipment. Must communicate information effectively, both written and oral. Must keep current with changing technology and industry trends.

Need to be organized and a self-starter. Ability to communicate and coordinate ideas and concepts with peers, superiors and supervising managers. Must have good interpersonal skills to interact with all employees of KAMO, KAMO member systems and other utilities. Ability to manage outage events and coordinate the activities of technicians, contractors and customers. Communicate technical concepts to network technicians, managers, and customers in a fast moving environment. Critical thinking and listening skills and use of good judgment; awareness of actions in the NOC or in field locations that could cause potential service outages. Equipment
Effectively use equipment such as, but not limited to: SONET ADMs, Ethernet Routers and Switches, DWDM Nodes, DS1, DS3, OC3, and OC12 Test sets, DC Power Plant, Gigabit Ethernet and IP Test sets, Optic Power Meter, Optic Light Source, Optical Time Domain Reflectometer, Network Analyzer, Network Management Servers, and Volt Ohm Meter. Ability to effectively use equipment such as, but not limited to: servers, personal computers, laptops, computer testing equipment, calculator, fax, copier and scanner. May require the use of hand tools.
Experience & Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Networking, Telecommunications, IT or related computer science field is required. Equivalent industry experience may potentially be considered toward substitution of degree requirements. Requires three (3) to five (5) years of telecommunications experience designing, managing, and provisioning telecommunication networks involving IP, MPLS, DWDM, Next Generation SONET and Ethernet services.
Position Type/Expected Work Hours
This is a full time position with 24 X 7 X 365 weekend and holiday shift rotations. Requires the flexibility to work during emergency situations. Requires flexibility to work irregular hours for assignment completion.
Safety Sensitive
This is a safety sensitive job due to having control of KAMO firewalls affecting the operation of substations, field equipment and communication equipment.
