Position Summary: Start your career with the Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) with this home-based position! Do you live in rural Kansas and avoid applying for jobs in the larger cities due to the cost of commuting? KDOR is looking for employees in rural Kansas communities to “telework” for the state from their homes. This position is on the 3rd Party Team in Revenue Recovery. Contact is made with taxpayers via telephone, written correspondence, as well as face-to-face communication in Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR) office setting. Prepares and processes tax warrants, satisfaction of judgments, lien payoffs, and dismissals. Reviews income tax and business tax accounts to ensure taxpayers have been afforded due process prior to application of legal remedies. Processes returns and correspondence for various tax types. Works with 3rd party vendors daily providing them with information, advice, and direction for handling KDOR accounts. Makes adjustments in KDOR systems to correct accounts, contacts the taxpayer with the outcome and updates the assigned vendor with the correct balance. Communicates directly with taxpayers and/or their assigned representatives. Provides taxpayer education concerning applicable state tax laws, regulations, forms, and services as related to all taxes administered by KDOR. Upon completion of training and any other requirements the selected candidate may be eligible to work remotely from their home on a hybrid basis. Receive phone calls from taxpayers via Legal Case Management (LCM) phone line.
This position is eligible to be a home-based position but will require a few days in the Topeka office for orientation, equipment pick up, and some initial training. KDOR will provide all equipment, however employee is responsible for home office workstation. Employee will be reimbursed for travel, lodging and food. Candidates working from home must have access to stable high speed internet services with download/upload and latency speeds to support our systems. If candidate prefers to work in the office, this position is based out of the Topeka office.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Qualifications: One year experience in interviewing, investigating, or providing technical assistance to clients, customers, or the public, and one year experience or education in auditing or accounting support work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Special Requirements: If employee is working remotely, they must have a locked secure location for all equipment and access to stable high speed internet services with download/upload and latency speeds to support our systems.
Preferred Experience: The ability to communicate information and ideas; assist people in a professional and impartial manner; retain self-control under stressful conditions; and maintain working relationships with the public and fellow employees. Prefer knowledge of accounting principles, telephone collection techniques, Kansas and Federal income tax filing requirements and forms, Kansas business tax filing requirements and forms, make determinations and adopt corrective action predicated on tax laws, rulings, precedents, and reference material related to Taxation.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: KBI and FBI fingerprint required due to access to Federal Tax Information files in KDOR systems.
