Make the members and guests feel welcome and give the Dining Room Manager the freedom of being able to monitor the dining room floor. The host/hostess stand is as vital to Lafayette’s service as the kitchen or bar. It should never just settle for getting the basics done, nor limit itself to narrow job duties and responsibilities. The host/hostess is often the members first and last impression of the service at Lafayette and as such holds great responsibility. It is up to you to make every person feel welcome, so greet them as you would greet a guest in your home. Smile, be friendly and use their name!
Acceptable attire would include for women a conservative blouse (nothing revealing or tummy bearing, or having plunging neck lines), dress slacks, dress or a skirt that covers the knees. For men dress slacks are required and a button up shirt with sleeves and a tie. Lastly no uniform is complete without your name tag and a smileJ (What is acceptable to wear is ultimately up to the discretion of the manager on duty and he/she has the final say if the host/hostess needs to go home and change).
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Make sure that the host stand is organized and ready for operation.
-Familiarize yourself with the names and special requests of the reservations. Inform appropriate staff of the specific needs. Also check for events around the club so that you may intelligently answer questions about them when they arise.
-Welcome each member/guest upon their arrival using their name.
– Escort members to their table and place the menus in front of them as they are seated. REMEMBER to express “enjoy your evening” or “enjoy your meal” to the members as you depart. Promptly inform the correct server that they have been seated.
-Inform the kitchen of late tables when seated. When our members and their guests leave, thank them sincerely, and genuinely tell them that you would like to see them return.
-Phones should be answered promptly, reservations be taken accurately (wrote down legibly and repeated back to the member for accuracy: reservations should be placed in the proper date for the reservation, dated the day the reservation was made, initialed by the reservation taker, with the members name, member number, size of party and any special requests –DO NOT MAKE PROMISES).
What is expected of you:
-Arrive to work on time, in a clean uniform and ready to work. Be helpful, kind and have a good attitude about you. If you’re having a bad day, don’t let that reflect in your service.
-Welcome all members with or without a reservation. Work your hardest to make the member and their guests satisfied.
– You are a neutral ambassador; do not gossip with co-workers about other co-workers or about the members and their guests.
-Do* not* make personal calls at the podium nor eat/drink at the podium. Also please keep personal conversations to a minimum.
-Ensure all rules of the club are enforced especially the dress code.
*-Standing for a five hour period of time.
-Able to lift 20 lbs. for table resets, carrying menus, pulling tables together, etc.
