The Airborne Systems Division within the Defense Group at Leidos is seeking Software Developers/Engineers to join our Beavercreek Ohio, Pentagon Blvd. office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) Sensors Directorate perform research and development in the areas of Modelling, Simulation and Analysis (MS&A) with external sensing technologies, as well as development and testing of scenarios & plugins. In support of this multi-year high visibility program, your position as a Software Developer will be to support USAF programs through a combination of laboratory, ground, and flight testing. There is opportunity for this to be a hybrid role with partial in-office/work from home flexibility.

THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities)

• Perform a variety of development tasks in the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM) modeling environment including discrete event simulation, model integration & operation, and plugin development to expand AFSIM’s built-in capabilities
• Design and develop code to create a hardware-in-the-loop connection to an AFSIM simulation via Distributed Integrated Simulation (DIS)
• Design and develop solutions using other tools/languages (i.e. Python) in conjunction with AFSIM for web scraping, graphing, scenario output analysis
• Perform Verification and Validation (V&V) of sensor technology models within an AFSIM scenario
• Collaborate within a team environment while emphasizing individual contributions to produce products that are valuable to the customer
• Participate in laboratory, ground and flight testing to validate software

WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience
• 1-2 years minimum professional experience with C++ development and testing
• Experience using/developing with AFSIM software environment
• Completion of the AFSIM user and/or developer training course, or equivalent experience
• Familiarity with Python or similar programming language
• Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen
• A DoD Clearance is not required to start this position, however continued employment in this position requires a final DoD Secret level of clearance, with the ability to maintain this level of clearance
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to develop briefing material and lead presentation of modeling results
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
• Highly self-motivated and self-directed, with keen attention to detail
• Analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
• Willingness to travel up to 10% (high estimate, travel is expected to be seldom) within the continental United States

Preferred Qualifications, not required.

• Experience with modeling sensing technologies (e.g., electro-optical, infrared, electronic warfare, electronic attack, radio frequency, communications, etc)
• Experience with Open Mission Systems (OMS)
• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices and tools such as Cameo and SysML
• AFSIM plugin development
• Scenario creation and testing with MS&A tools
• Experience with sensor “digital twin” development
• Active DoD Secret (or higher) Clearance

Pay Range:

Pay Range $53,300.00 – $82,000.00 – $110,700.00
