The Technology Department of LAVC is looking to expand our program in the manufacturing area. The department works closely with the industry to provide high skill and high wage opportunities for students.
In accordance with its mission as a community college, instruction at LAVC focuses on creating pathways for certificates, degrees, and transfer. Faculty members at LAVC are expected to create a learning-centered environment that supports students in fulfilling their educational goals. All instructors are required to teach fifteen hours per week. The assignment involves curriculum development and evaluation, online course development, attendance of department and discipline meetings, professional activities, and college committee work. Instruction may include day, evening, off-campus, and Saturday courses. This is a full-time probationary (tenure track) position with a ten-month assignment; however, additional summer and winter assignments may be available.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and two years of professional experience*; OR
Associate’s degree in any discipline and six years of professional experience*.
Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and sexual orientation, including disabilities, of community college students, faculty, and staff.
*Professional experience must be directly related to teaching position
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID 19 VACCINATION:
Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee’s Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated by November 8, 2021 and complete a baseline test or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
At least two years of manufacturing teaching experience in a college setting.
At least two years of machine tool technology teaching experience in a college setting.
Enthusiasm for and knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies and the assessment of student learning (e.g., Student Learning Outcomes).
Interest in and willingness to participate in college and department committees.
Effective communication skills with students and colleagues in a multicultural environment.
Experience working with high schools and other industry/community partners.
