Develops, analyzes, implements, coordinates and monitors loss control and/or security activities of a risk management program in support of the County of Maui; develops, monitors, and executes loss control reporting and/or security systems; provides technical consultation to County of Maui departments in loss control and/or security; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class is responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and executing loss control and/or security activities of the risk management program to prevent, reduce or eliminate the County’s exposure to liability and property losses.
This class also develops, implements, interprets, and revises Loss Control and Security Guidelines for operating departments, as well as identifying and analyzing potential sources of loss. In addition, this class serves as technical experts in loss control, security, and provides consultation services and training to County departments.

conducting interviews with department heads and other staff, by conducting on-site
inspections of buildings and facilities, by examining service contracts and agreements,
internal policies and procedures on quality assurance, and studies of overall operations
and objectives of operating departments and agencies; consulting with experts both
within and outside of the County of Maui;
exposure and convinces operating departments of the importance of adopting these
techniques;
disruptive to the overall departmental operations or objectives;
techniques into effect including by whom, when and how to best enhance the
department’s or agency’s operating efficiency;
chosen techniques were correct;
loss exposures to assure the most effective techniques were chosen to achieve the goals
and objectives of the risk management program;
analyzing and monitoring loss control activities and formulating loss avoidance
techniques;
departments;
report liability and property incidents;
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance or a related field, and four (4) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in loss control management, which involved independently investigating and analyzing potential sources of liability or property loss or workplace hazards as well as recommending techniques or methods of reducing or eliminating loss exposure.
Knowledge of: loss control management; basic principles and concepts of accounting, contracts and statistics; risk audit concepts and applications; loss control information system concepts and applications; types and purposes of insurance policies and coverage; and data collection, analysis and evaluation techniques to identify and measure loss exposure.
Ability to: develop, analyze, implement, coordinate and monitor the loss control activities of the risk management program; develop and maintain a loss control information system; collect, analyze and evaluate data and make recommendations; recognize potential loss exposures; inspect work sites and observe operations; motivate others to implement and make adjustments to loss control techniques; make presentations before groups; write clear and concise reports; maintain effective working relationships with operating departments and other loss control experts; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Vacation

Deferred Compensation Plan
Eligible employees may participate in the Island Savings Plan (a deferred compensation plan as provided under Section 457 of the Internal Revenue Code.) This is a supplemental retirement savings plan that allows for the investment of tax-deferred contributions into a variety of investment options.
Flex Spending Plan
Eligible employees can also participate in the County’s Flexible Spending plan, a way to set aside a portion of pay, before taxes, to pay for qualifying dependent care or medical expenses.
Employee Assistance Program
The County also offers a voluntary assistance program which provides its employees and their family members with free professional and confidential assistance in overcoming personal and work related problems.
Training
The County provides its employees with a variety of up-to-date training opportunities (i.e., computer application, professional seminars, heavy equipment operation, administrative & clerical skills, personal safety, etc.) to help them increase their knowledge, gain new skills, and to be more satisfied and effective in their jobs.
Leave Sharing
The County’s leave sharing program allows employees to donate accumulated vacation leave credits to a qualified fellow employee who has a serious personal illness or injury.
